Bought my '03 996 back in July from a P-dealer and the car did not come with the original stamped-up service book. Dealer told me not to worry, that nobody bothers with the paper books anymore as everything is on the computer. Now I'm wondering if I should get the new blank book I have stamped up retrospectively, just to keep the history tidy. Car is still in warranty and CPOd until 2009 so I have no worries, but just like to have evrything perfect. Are you guys maintaining these service books, or is it true that nobody cares about them these days?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

You could ask your dealer to print out all of the historical service records for the car.
I regularly update my service booklet so I can have a handy reference, although I don't bother to get the dealer stamps. This way I can quickly skim through the service history which includes both dealer and indy shops. I do have the complete printout from the dealer up to the time I bought the car almost 5 years ago, so I'll just get a more up-to-date printout if/when it comes time to part with it.
