Hello, I just upgrade my Boxster into a 1999 C2. I'm glad to be a part of this forum as everyone seems extremely knowledgeable. I've read some comments that the early 99's are notorious for some common problems. Does anyone know what those problems are? I had the car checked out by a Porsche dealership and they said the car was clean. Also, the car is lowered and has too much negative camber for my liking. Is there any way to correct that? Or is that just a fact of life on a lowered car? Thanks!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Welcome to the club! You'll get a lot of enjoyment out of your 996. As for problems - there are people who talk about the '99 having problems, but the reality is that owners of the MY '99 are happy and usually don't report that many problems. So, either I'm yet to meet an owner of a '99 that has had problems, or the problems are overblown. Sit back, enjoy the car and get ready to do the mods.
Congrats on the 996!! Depending on how much the car has been lowered you may or may not be able to get the camber back to "stock" settings but if the camber is excessive you should be able to reduce it. Some (myself included) like to run with some extra negative camber and it does not always result in uneven tire wear (depends on your driving style). If you want to get back to stock I'm sure you can easily find the stock springs and shocks for very little money from someone who is in the process of modding their suspension. '99's experience most of the same problems as the later cars, except at a somewhat higher frequency (Porsche has improved the 996 through the years, unfortunately some problems such as RMS have been stubborn). However, there is no reason to expect problems with your '99 as there are many out there that are trouble free.
My '99 has basically been trouble free daily driver. Cracked coolant tank at about 40k. No oil leaks.
Even the RMS problems are severely overblown - search this forum and you'll see. Sure there are cars that have had problems, but the majority do not. The '99 is no better, nor no worse for reliability than subsequent years. People just like picking on the '99 as they think that the first year of production should have worse problems for reliability. Here's a review survey conducted by Automotive Information Systems posted on MSN that is based upon actual repairs conducted on the 1999 Carrera. http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/Re...=911&trimid=-1
'99 is the place to be, man! Keep it clean and drive it!
Congrats on the new ride. I am sure you will love it! How about some photos, details, options, etc. Oreganet - if you have never met anyone who has had problems with their 99, PM me and I will tell you my story. Cracked cyliinder #1. $11,000. PObox604 - i would look into a warranty just to be safe! I know the chances are slim, but if you are the one who gets hit, it is nice to have a warranty.
I'm sorry you had issues - I wouldn't wish that on anyone, but one case, or even a handful do not condemn a whole model year. I'm sure there are similar cases (talk to blk on blk!) in ever model year. People get hysterical over overhyped issues like the MY '99 or RMS, when in reality the vast majority see no issues.
Here's a pic of the car. Aero kit, HR springs and custom stereo with 8" woofers in the rear. Hoping to slap on some 19" wheels soon and a short shifter.
Nice car! Enjoy!
nice car! would mind tell me more about this deal? i am looking for the same thing.
