Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

is it said that if you drive fast enough (>35Mph), you won't get rain even the top is open? maybe my memory is messed up with MB SL?

POST 2Original post

it doesnt matter what car you're driving, this will be true of all convertibles at some speed. the difference between cars is the speed at which this becomes true which is dependant on the height and angle of the windshield, and the amount of "open space" in the cockpit (ie a smaller 2-seater boxster would take less speed to not get rain in than a larger 4-seater 911).

POST 3Original post

It also helps to have the windows rolled up when you do this otherwise the water from the windshield would curl around the pillar and hit you in the face.

POST 4Original post

that is a perfectly valid point! in my thought process in my head i just automatically assumed you'd have your windows up

POST 5Original post

than you hit a traffic jam...or traffic light...and the rain will pour into your car!!

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i was driving the car between 50~75Mph in the rain yesterday, with top down! very slick! ppl would think u messed up, in fact you don't! the wind is strong enough to keep me dry in the medium rain. again, if you never driving you 996 in the rain, you don't know what you missed!

POST 8Original post

If you say so, but when I do it rain gets in the car. I will not do it again.

POST 9Original post

I drove most of the way across North Dakota w/my top down in heavy rains. Roll up the back windows too ( stick your finger in where the top latches ) and keep a towel handy to wipe some of the moisture that accumulates.

POST 10Original post

I regularly do this with my cabs (50 MPH+), though I haven't yet in the 996. My Boxster was a gem when it came to this. On a trip through FLA, we drove through tons of t-storms, without getting wet. My 993 was a little draftier, but not bad (with the windblocker) either. Ooh, never thought of that!

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i have the smart top installed, so i don't have to lower the back window. and i don't have a wind screen.

POST 12Original post

Ummm, why do you think there is a top (with the cab)? Who drives in the rain anyway?
