Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm new to the world of the 996 and doing some preliminary research on these great cars. I currently drive a 95 E36 M3 with a bunch of mods as my daily driver and track car. I'm looking to go after my 996 dream and considering a 40th anniv. 996. In the M3 the electric seat adjustments took away about an inch of headroom in some cars and there is no lowered seat option from the factory. I noticed 2 seating options, standard manual seats and comfort electric adjustability seats. I'm a tall guy at 6'4" and need headroom. Do the comfort seats take away some headroom in comparison to the standard seats? Can the lowering seat option be fitted at the dealer and how much additional headroom would this add? How much headroom is added by not having a sunroof? Thank you for any insight you can provide. Marc 95M3 Los Angeles area

It's going to be tight with the comfort seat. You really need to sit in various 996's to compare the comfort an sport seats. I have not seen one with a manual seat and I suspect that they are very rare in a car in this price range. I didn't know you could order the 40th without a power seat and sun roof? The 40th is a great car. I'm very happy with it. OBTW, I traded in a 2003 e46 M3 after 7 months to get into my current Porsche.

I have a C4s with the sunroof delete option. I sat in just about every configuration of seat/roof combo. The standard power seats are high, but only a touch higher (no significant amount) than the sport seats. You want to delete the sunroof. As you know, it'll save about 40+ lbs. But, more importantly, it'll add about 2" of headroom. I kid you not. I'm 6'1" and I have room to spare with the helmet on in my car. I also thought about ordering a lowered seat option, but that lowers the seat by 10mm. That seat is used in the Targa. I tried to also get the regular manual seats of the standard 996 C2 (the base seats) into the C4s. It was a no go. If you want you can always get a GT3 seat but then you'll kill any reclining features. My suggestion is to deletel the sunroof. I never looked back and the car's lines look better without that rectangular box on the roof.

i'm 6'4 and i have the comfort seats and the sunroof in my 2001 C4 and i fit in the car without any problem. if i was wearing a helmet my head would probably get pretty close to the roof or maybe touch, but i've never tried it. i run with my seats all the way down about as low as they can go.

I'm 6'5" and have sat in a 996 with standar seats, comfort seats and sports seats all with a sunroof and fit in just fine so I wouldn't worry about it.
