I've only had my P-car since Feb, but since then I've witnessed some bizarre behavior on the road around me. Last week, I passed (with gusto)a slow mover as he turned off the road and the guy behind me in a medium 4-wheel drive pickup accelerated to try to stay with me and nearly drove off the road trying to negotiate the first turn. Then tonight I'm out for a spin (55 in a 50 zone) and I overtake a Nissan Sentra beater and the guy floors it for a couple hundred yards and then locks up all four trying to negotiate a turn off (I never accelerated from 55). I don't remember this kind of behavior from low performance car drivers when I had my 76 911SC. I'm starting to worry about being the cause of an accident just by "being there." Does this happen to any of you all or am I the only idiot magnet?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I deal with that almost everyday, guys in rice burners try to take a shot at the champ - sometimes I play and sometimes I smile and let them feel good... When I drive my wifes CLK55 ///AMG I surprise many of them, 365hp, 360trq, you have to see the look on their faces... Priceless.. Just be careful and try no to get pulled into racing, most of them only been behind the wheel of a car for a couple of years...
I suppose I could be randomly encountering fledgling drivers. Although when I was a young driver (back when the earth was still cooling) the cost of insurance brought my IQ up 20 points and I drove pretty well after my first "boy was that stupid."
My worst fear is someone rearending me at the lights because they think I am just going to floor it and take off like a bat out of hell. Most times I am quite placid taking off at the lights and when you have morons thinking they are on a F1 track trying to fight for first position it can become quite interesting when you are not thinking the same. I remeber the first night I had my current 996, I nearly got cleaned up due to the fact the driver behind me thought exactly that.
The rear end thing bothers me too, in a different venue. On the rare occassions that the LA roads are moving well, everyone turns into Dale Earnhart and you get the NASCAR draft. And then the brake lights all come on..................
I know the feeling. I'm always worrying about the guy behind me that can't stop as fast as I can. Our cars are light and stop a lot shorter than most others. Oh, and ArthurK, I once got rear-ended at a stop sign. I saw a gap that was too small, so I decided not to go (it was before my Porsche, an old Subaru with a really small engine). The guy behind me thought we could both make it, so he gunned it right into me, without realizing that I wasn't going. I almost felt bad for him -- the towhitch on the Subaru really trashed the front of his car.
I was overseas one time and dad decided to take my car out for a spin. On that night he nearly crapped himself as someone behind him thought he would be smart. To cut a long story short, the roads were wet and the guy nearly cleaned up my 993 cab and dad. He came to a stop with his car perpendicular to mine and less than a foot from the rear bumper. Dad decided it was not a good thing to drive my car again Not that I would have blamed him for it anyway. Unfortunately there are idiots on the road and you just need to be even more aware when you drive the PCar not because it is more precious only because the idiots out there are worse when they see something like a Porsche or any other prestige vehicle.

I'm not touching this topic - I've learned my lesson.
I think that more than people wanting to race us....some just want to see us drive our cars fast. Remember when you were a kid in the back of your parents car and you made the pulling motion to truckers to try get them to blow the horn....I think its kind of like that. For some....ours is an exotic and people want to see what it can do.
I think you summed it up best Jason.
Not worth it to race these guys. Having a P-car is like having "the bomb". You know you got it and they know you got it. They can't win so let them be stupid on their own. Don't play their game and let them get in front if that is so important to them. You can only get in trouble and the victory is not that glorious anyway. Just my view.
i've had more than a few people give ask me to gun it if i'm at a light so they car hear the sound of the engine. or kids will ask me to peal out. most of the time i just ignore them, but a couple of times if it's a group of young kids (12 yrs old or so) and there's nobody around i'll humor them. as for racing on the highway, there's really no point. i just ignore other people because they have no idea just how fast my car is. to them triple digits is fast, to me i'm just shifting to 4th gear.
Jason, you are dead on... I just got my car for a week, and I have suburban, pickup truck, Z3, M3 and others pull up in a challenging manner. Granted there are lots of cars out there that can do 0-60 under 6, not everyone is a race car driver. When I am out there driving, I don't want to race anyone. Leave me alone and let me enjoy my Porsche. If these people want to see how fast Porsche can go/perform, then they should buy their own.
Yes. Add me to the list of unprovoked racing challenges. Generally by the rice racers. Sometimes in beater rice cars. I think it's an age thing. I've said before I like to see the rice rocket hot rods at our local "show and shine" hot rod meets. Not everbody got to grow up putting a built 283, with an Isky Cam, and a Hurst shifter in his 55 Chevy. These guys are just the evolution of 40 years of hot-rodding. I generally slow down and get behind m. To race these guys is a sure loser. If I out drag them I just proved that a high dollar Porsche is faster than a low dollar Honda. If they out-drag me, I'm a loser. If I get a speed contest ticket, I'm a really the biggest loser of all.
got into a race with a supercharged C36... this guys was fast... I could only crawl away from him... what amazed me is his disregard for the safety of others on the road... when he couldn't pass me he would stay way behind wind it up and pass on the shoulder.... dumb F**** racing is bad enough but being careless in traffic... man....
remember the immortal words of that pop philosopher george carlin: "the average person isn't very smart and nearly half are even dumber!" even dumbutts can recognize 911's after 40y of production
