The new J.D. Power 2004 initial quality study was released on April 28. Some interesting tidbits: The 996 was named the highest ranked premium sports car in initial quality, followed by the Honda S2000 and the Nissan 350Z. The Porsche plant in Stuttgart (which produces 996s and boxsters) received the "gold" plant quality award for the best plant in Europe; worldwide, only the Lexus plant in Tahara, Japan was rated higher. The Porsche nameplate ranked THIRD FROM THE LAST (higher only than Volkswagen and Hummer) in overall initial quality for all of its models. Porsche Cars North America, Inc. ranked dead LAST in the 2004 corporate initial quality study rankings. And the moral of this story is: Cayennes must really suck.

Damn! I was this close to buying a Cayenne. Although, I'm not really impressed with the build quality of my wife's ML.
