Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Did I damage my transmission? I have a 2003 C4S with about 3K miles on it. Driving down the road yesterday, I accidentally shifted from 2nd to 3rd without the clutch engaged and it made one hell of a noise. I have owned 4 manual transmission cars and never did this before. I feel pretty stupid but my main concern is that I did some damage. The car seems to run fine. Am I in trouble?

POST 2Original post

You may need to drain the trans to find out if there are any shiny bits. AS

POST 3Original post

My uncle used to shift that way in his TR7, but that was British engineering. I honestly wouldn't worry unless you're transmission starts acting up and then take it to your dealer. Most of us have messed up few shifts.

POST 4Original post

Hi Andy, It's Cortland. I did that 2 times in my Boxster S. No problems and I believe they are the same transmissions...maybe. Does it go through the gears ok now?

POST 5Original post

I've done it once under hard acceleration and brought it in to the service guys (who are always more than happy to take money off anxious car-owners) and they said that it should be fine, but then added "although, don't make a regular habit out of it." Hope that helps!

POST 6Original post

you probably took a couple of flakes of metal off of a couple of the gears, but nothing that will really make a difference. just be on the lookout for any strange behavior!

POST 7Original post

Tell service it jumps out of 2nd gear, I hear they just give you a new trannsmission.

POST 8Original post

I think you're fine, interesting though that a new tranny might be in the offing for you. Good luck
