Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I read somewhere that 996's with tip already have the third radiator installed. Is it located in the same place as the optional radiator and can I remove that black plastic in the middle grill to expose it? BTW, has anyone installed mesh in their front bumper to protect the radiators? Pics would be awesome. Thanks Bobby

POST 2Original post

There should not be a black plastic in the middle grill. If there is, the previous owner may have switched out the bumper with a manual 996's bumper. The manual and tip have different pastic inserts behind the bumper cover. The plastic insert on the tip already has a hole. As for a mesh grill. I have never seen one on a non-aero or non-turbo bumper. There are alot of vendors who make them, alot of people have also gone to a hardware store and bought the mesh and inserted themselves. Again, if you have a NA 996 regular bumper I dont know if it will look as good if it can even be done.

POST 3Original post

All the noses on the non-aero '99-01 996s are the same, the only difference being the center is open on the tip. The black plastic actually peels right out , really pretty easy. The third radiator is a fairly straightforward, albeit very labor intensive, upgrade that really seems to help. Having done the upgrade I would say the mesh install would be pretty easy.

POST 4Original post

The part # for the black plastic piece WITH the opening for the 3rd radiator is 996 505 561 02. I have a spare one in my garage WITHOUT The opening if anyone needs a new one. Picture of it below.

POST 5Original post

Is it correct that the tip already comes with a third radiator? I have a 2003 C4S?

POST 6Original post

I think so, - i also think that's why the X51/X50 is not available with tip, because something somewhere gets in the way....

POST 8Original post

On an early (Mk1) GT3 or X51 the third radiator is used as additional cooling to the engine. On Tip cars the third radiator uses different lines and routing since it cools the automatic transmission. Any non Tip car EXCEPT the C4S can have the third radiator added. Instructions are here
