Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Hey there. This board may be aware that I'm interested in switching to the water world. One reason I've been thinking about is the 996 safety strengths over the 993. Does anyone know what improvements Porsche has done? Or a site I may find some information? Honestly I'd feel more comfortable driving with my wife and daughter (in a baby seat) in a 996 than a 993. Just curious.

POST 2Original post

That's interesting you say that. I'm not aware of any *major* safety improvement from the 993 to 996. I drive around with my 21 month old all the time in the 996 and I wouldn't feel unsafe doing the same in a 993.

POST 3Original post

Don't not of an exhaustive list, but dual front air bags and side impact air bags are the first thing that come to mind. When I ride in my friend's 993, I certainly notice I am sitting a lot closer to the windshield than I do in a 996.

May not sound very scientific but germans are sticklers for safety. Benz, BMW, VW are very safe cars. I think it is in their custom to place safety very high on the list. Now safety is such a selling point, everyone was forced to improve but germans have always made it a priority. In general, cars manufactured in the last 10 years, especially expensive cars like the 996 are safe with the latest safety features, crumple zones, computer aided design and so forth. May sound redundant, but I am sure that the 996 is safer than the 993 only becasue it is a new model and has newer safety features and designs. THis doesn't mean that the 993 is unsafe by any means. Then again, if you don't feel safe in the 993 then trade up. bob

Thanks for your replies. nova 996 - Not knocking my 993. The 996 just feels safer. Wasn't sure if Porsche made any safety evolutions from the air cooled to the newer platform. chitownbob - I'm sort of making excuses to trade up.

Oh, now I see! Well, in that case, did I tell you the 993 is a deathtrap?

safty also comes in the form of power and handling. the water cooled cars are more powerfull and handle better, the result is better accident avoidence if needed.
