Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Reading some of the posts on this forum can really depress you. All of us 996 owners need to spend less time worrying and more time driving. There is way too much angst here. So I went for a drive in the Hill Country west of Austin. Those of you who live here know how great it is. Those of you who don't, might move here someday. The weather was perfect. One of the times when your mind is sharp, and your reflexes are impeccable. You are alive. The primal scream of the flat-6 as it nears redline, amplified by the PSE...the urgent thrust from the "maligned" M96, the downshifts through the turns with the "unrebuildable" transmission, diving, climbing... the lively motion of the C2, tugging and pushing (mental note - next on the list is an RoW M030 or PSS-9)...I tired far sooner than I ran out of road to explore. The car is amazing. The harder it's pushed the better everything works. The transmission, a little balky around town, is perfect at speed. The C2 lightens up and hunkers down. I can't wait to get to it to the track. I doubt I will ever be able to approach the potential of this car. Screw the depreciation, the rattles, the RMS, the interior quality, the sound of the Bose. You 996 owners have nothing to complain about. Like the ad says "A twist of the key restores your faith in mankind".

Thanks!!! As I do appreciate learning about potential problems, I do not like to dwell on them. I have a new 2003 Targa and LOVE IT!!! No problems yet. Drive sounds GOOD!

mb996, you are right on the money. stop worrying. if it breaks fix it. otherwise just drive the **** out of it and have a blast doing it.

POST 6Original post

Amen. Enjoy while you can, if it breaks, that is why you have a warranty. All this wanking is depressing.

POST 7Original post

"SCrew" the interior quality....??? Sure, for my 78 Targa, but my 01 996 interior is definitely well within the Lexus LS430 class. Beautiful.
