Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Driving my two month old C4S hard yesterday, I noticed coolant smell within the cabin. I had the drivers side window down, the interior fan on recirculate, engine temp normal, oil pressure normal, no lights... Pulled over and looked for leaks, etc. No leaks, no more smell, coolant reservoir level hasn't gone down... It was definitely coolant smell and no other cars nearby. BTW, after watching it closely for a long time, i did more hard driving for 30 minutes and no temp increase, or oil pressure drop. Any ideas? Thanks in advance...

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Being the first time in 6,000 plus miles seems kinda bizarre, doesn't it?

POST 4Original post

Same thing at 500 miles w/ my '03 C2. No visual leaks, no apparent coolant loss. A complete mystery. I thought I might be paranoid, as my '02 C2 actually did have a defective coolant cap, allowing fluid to leak at rear of car. Cheers, -DT

POST 5Original post

There is nothing normal New Used or otherwise that you would be able to smell coolant while the car is running unless someone topped the coolant tank off and some spilled on the engine

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

there are so many knowledgable people on this board, it always surprises me that 300 people will review a thread and a dozen will reply. surely some of you have more insight into the coolant smell thing than a couple of you. anxious to learn...thanks in advance

POST 7Original post

KWC4S, have u noticed the coolant level is kinda low in its tank. mine is at low level. is that normal?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

20C4S...my coolant level is still exactly where it was at new (full mark). that makes it even more bizarre...normal? nothing seems normal with a Porsche, except everything that shouldn't seem normal. wait, i'm confused...

POST 9Original post

KWC4S, I have experienced the same coolant smell on my C2. Was not able to ascertain the reason for this, no visable leaks observed when up on a lift. The strongest smell seems to come from the storage area. The coolant level is at max. POST 10Original post

I had the same experience on the 996, could it be windscreen wiper fluid?
