Personally, ~I think that the appeal of 911s is their comparative compactness. For that reason, I much prefer narrow bodies. What is the general consensus?

POST 2Original post

I like big butts and I can't deny....(sorry forgot the rest of the song)

Ditto... But I am positive someone has the sales numbers to prove that narrow bodies sell the most...

POST 5Original post

Not really. Yeah the C2 and C4 cost a lot less than the Turbo, but an evenly equipped C2 will cost more or at least the same than a C4S. Additionally a C4 optioned out like a C4S is more money. A cabriolet, with the approx. $10k premium over the coupe, certainly tops out more than a C4S. The GT3 is the only top end narrowbody with a base price of around a $100k. Grant it none of that compares with the premiums of the GT2 and Turbo for the widebodies, but still comparing the standard lineup of 996's: C2, C4, C4S (coupe and cab). This was all without the Targa which also is supposedly going for a price which should rival any other standard 996. To be honest when I searched for my car I realized it didn't matter much which incarnation of the coupe I was going to purchase, pricewise. They all came out to be roughly the same within a thousand or two dollars, when equipped with the same options. I think the appeal of the narrowbodies has little to do with cost.

POST 6Original post

Wide body all the way, no question. The narrow ones just don't excite me, although like I said before, I wouldn't kick one out of the driveway.

POST 7Original post

Wide bodies will hold their value a little better, at least it has historically compared to the narrow body.

POST 8Original post

Narrowbodies RULE! , and they look good too! <a href="http://www.986host.com/albums/doncapecod/DSC00015_002.sized.jpg" target="_fullview"><img src="http://www.986host.com/albums/doncapecod/DSC00015_002.sized.jpg" width="400" alt="Click for fullsize image" /></a> <a href="http://www.986host.com/albums/doncapecod/DSC00002.sized.jpg" target="_fullview"><img src="http://www.986host.com/albums/doncapecod/DSC00002.sized.jpg" width="400" alt="Click for fullsize image" /></a>

POST 9Original post

I think it comes down to personal preference, i definitely like the wide body. If you like the compactness of narrow body, you should go with it. No denying that Don's car is hot, but, may be because of the c4s bumpers

POST 10Original post

Andy, It's "Sir Mix -a- lot's" tune "Baby got Back".... a quiet, subtle melody. J

POST 11Original post

I agree with Mark, narrow bodies just don't do it for me - I think someone posted a while back that two cars in a showroom - a heavily optioned C2 aero coupe and a mostly bone-stock C4S were next to each other and the C4S got way more attention than the coupe. I would (and may) only get rid of my C4S for a Turbo X50.

POST 12Original post

I think the widebody is quite voluptuous - love the flanks. But isn't the whole idea behind wider rear fenders to make room for the turbos/intercoolers? So without them, it's just wider for wider's sake. I'd like to see all 911's shrink, not grow. We're only talking about a few inches, but I prefer the tightest skin possible on any sports car. Keep the flanks, shrink the rest. C4S's/Turbo's do look hot, though, all bubble-butted and hunkered down! -DT

POST 14Original post

Sheik Jabouti! Can't beat the "booty up the back" look of the C4S and TT. Anyone remember where the "Sheik" came from?

POST 15Original post

i was going to buy an 03 C4 cab at first, but I decided the 4S was a better option - i'd have to say the wide version is a little more appealing to me. Not many cars offer that option!

POST 16Original post

Being that I wanted as much of a sporting feel as possible -- lightweight, minimal, I went for the C2 narrowbody. IMHO, the only P-cars on which the widebody has actually been *necessary* have been the turbos. And, all of the "hardcore performance" Porsches, with the exception of the 959, have been 2wd. IMHO, if it isn't necessary to make it go faster, then I don't want it on my P-car.

POST 17Original post

Of course it's a matter of personal preference. But, for me, nothing touches the look of the widebody 996 models. They have a lot of the voluptuous curves of the 993's, and have a very "purposeful" stance. I just picked up my C4S today, and (being the proud father) have showed it to a lot of people, Porsche fans and novices alike. The long-term Porsche fans all know and love the look. But, the interesting reactions have come from people with just a passing acquaintance with the 911. They have universally commented on how much better it looks to them than most of the 911's they have seen. They don't specifically know what it is that makes it different, but they know it looks great! My favorite view is directly from the rear. Flared hips and all squatted down. Beautiful! I've had the car only 12 hours, but I'm totally smitten. An absolute dream to drive!

I have a c2 cab and a c4s and I must say that I like the looks of the c4s but because I am not a track guy, I actually prefer driving the c2 cab. The c4s is tighter, heavier, precise and more solid while I think the c2 is lighter, more nimble and fun. With that said, I get the most looks when I am in the c4s, hands down!

POST 22Original post

Wid body all the way - those rear intakes on TT and GT2 make the car look a million times better IMO...even on a C4S it feels that something is missing.

POST 23Original post

Narrowbodies, please, lighter and cleaner lines. Widebodies are cool too, but I do not think the car's shape looks as good from as many angles, versus clearly looking better from dead astern. Especially the TT, best of all the 996 wing designs IMO.

While it is just two inches and thus one inch on each side, the difference is huge in the mirror. The c2 looks like it is missing several inches! But as I said before, I like driving the c2. On the highway, the c4s is much more stable and tight.

Nothing beats lookin at the Spanish rear from the back, just priceless and so sweeeet!

POST 31Original post

I was told last night that the 996 wide body wasn't wide enough by someone comparing a 930 turbo to a 996 turbo, oh well, there's just no pleasing some people. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> Now I have sir mix a lot going through my head... arrrrrgh....

I think the narrow body 996 is less than an inch narrower than the 993 S models. I guess it's all relative. Terry 2003 C2 Cab

When i had my 964 wb wb ruled! Now I have a 996 NB NB rule!! I love the look in you rear view of the WB. But making sure the rear does not clip in the garage or gas station can be nerve racking

POST 36Original post

Is it correct that the narrow body 996's are dimensionally wider than the wide body 993's?

POST 38Original post

Got to go with the narrow body and 2wd. Lower weight and aerodynamic drag and no unnecessary bits for looks at the expense of performance. Unless you have a turbo, the wide body simply adds unnecessary weight. It's not accidental that the ultimate driver's Porsche, the GT3, is a 2wd narrow body. I'm not saying the wide body isn't great looking, but a lowered fat-tired narrow body looks every bit as good, IMHO. When it comes to sports cars less (weight, options, add-ons, driver aids) is more.
