Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

has anybody shortened the differential on their cars? i know some would hate to tamper with the mechanics of such a fine car, but i did it on my E36 M3 and loved it. i'd like to hear anybody's thoughts regarding this...good or bad. my warranty is up anyways.

POST 2Original post

You mean the ring and pinion? If so I don't believe there is a part for the 996 that allows you to shorten the final gear ratio.

POST 3Original post

Hi: There is indeed a shorter R&P for the 996 and thats really ALL you can do with these transmissions to increase performance.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks...yes, the ring and pinion is what i mean. on the m3 it was cheaper and easier just to swap the entire unit. where can i find a different ring and pinion and do you have any idea how much $$ i'm looking at?
