Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Any feedback /thoughts as to what the best short shift kit is out there ? Perry

POST 2Original post

IMO, both TechArt and RUF make the best short shift kit for the 996 cars. They mount at the transmission and are not notchy like the conventional types.

POST 3Original post

B&M, is good also. A lot better than the crappy plastic stock unit IMO. The Ruf sounds good also.

POST 4Original post

I have the Ruf kit and like it. it's the same as a stock shifter but shorter throw. Try and find someone who has a B&M, its fairly common, and see if you likre the feel.

POST 5Original post

I have the b&m, installed it myself, no problems. I like it immensely over the stock feel. I think it has a more positive feel because it takes a little more effort to go through the gears. Shifts are noticably faster. I rank the short shifter 2nd only to the exhaust out of my upgrades, 3rd is litronic headlights.

POST 6Original post

I went with the B & M and am happy so far, very well made and short throws. JAS
