Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyone here have good recommendations for 996 3.6L intake and header systems? I am interested in doing this setup for my 03 996 C4S. Thank you.

POST 2Original post

I recommend you save your money. I put Fabspeed headers and exhaust on my 1999 C2 when it was new. The dyno showed only 9 HP increase at peak, much less than that most of the time. I got another 9 HP peak by adding a TRG Unichip. This 18 HP increase was not noticeable at all on the street and I was not noticeably faster than other stock 996's on the track. For very little gain, I lost my PCNA warranty when the dealer found the Unichip and refused to do over $2000 of repairs under warranty because I had modded the DME. He also refused to replace O2 sensors in the cats since I had modified the exhaust system. In my opinion, the small gains are not worth putting your warranty at risk. If you want to fool around with the engine, wait until the car is out of warranty. Karl

WOW. Good post Karl S. I too, believe the modifications are not worth it. I have a completely stock 996 C2 coupe that kicks *** on the track. I dont even have M030 or sport exhaust!! I saved my money for a rollbar and safety harnesses, they keep me safe and in the driving position I want to be in. I will say, on the other hand, that I do have trouble hearing where I am on the RPM scale due to the helmet, etc. So, maybe a set of mufflers would help in that respect. I would like to stay off the rev limiter!!

John, If you don't mind doing an hour worth of track prep, you can get a set of Fabspeed muffler bypass pipes. Remove your mufflers (saving about 40 lbs) and bolt them on prior to a track event. You will definitely be able to hear everything your engine is doing. A great tool for the heel-toe throttle blip and to hear where you are picking up the throttle in a turn. Karl
