The original 911 silhouette was pretty much the same from 1965 to at least 1995 wherein o/t wider fenders and sleeker looking headlights the "look" was the same. Then along came the 993, sort of an interim look, more like the 911 than the 996. Question is, how many years to you think we'll get variations of the 996 "look" before we go into something as different as the 996 was to the 911? <img src="graemlins/drink.gif" border="0" alt="[cherrsagai]" />

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Do you think the 996 silhoutte is that much different from the 993? I know things evolve, but the signature profile for the 911 for me is the sloping front and rear. I think this is maintained in the 996, and that sloping rear forces Porsche to make this pop-up spoiler to compensate for what would otherwise be poor aerodynamics.
You're right. I was basically talking about the profile. The angle of the windshield and the way the roof "comes off" the windshield is very different in the 996 than any 911 up to the 996.
For some reason the 996 seems to remind me more of the 356. Yeah it's weird I know. I think the similarity is greatest in the cabrio.--even more so with the top down. Chris
