Planning another track event at Thunderhill so has anyone removed their back seats to lighten the car? How much weight you do lose from removing them and how easy it to remove? TIA. Mike

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

hey mike, still hacking away I see....about 20lbs if I recall and maybe 20 minutes of work once you get the hang of it, you could do it in 10 min.
Hey Rod how you take it out? Mike
Actually they're 30 lbs. There are two bolts on the side of the seatbacks and the bottom ones are just stuck on with velcro. There is also a screw inside the plastic box in between the seatbacks where they meet the carpeted "hump". Once you've done all three, you must remove the rear seat backs as one piece so as not to break the metal piece that connects the two at the hump.
I removed my rear seats as well, I think they are WAY more than 20lbs. Probabbly double that. The rear seats are almost usless to me, and with my GT3 rollbar, totally usless. Good Luck with the DE's!!!
you guys must have the "special" cement seats....or you haven't been working out! <grin> ok so I was conservative in my weight estimate!
Removing the seat cushions, backs, seatbelts and hardware will save a total of 29lbs. Removal is straightforward, although in the case of the seatbelts some interior trim bits must be taken off first. The only thing you have to do that is not immediately obvious, is to carefully pry off the plastic cover in the center to loosen the torx screw securing the center hinge pin. That allowed enough slack so that I could get the seatbacks out one at a time. If you need more specific info, let me know.
Carefull with those velcro seat bottoms! When I took mine out the plastic seat bottom cracked and ripped! The velcro was stronger than the seat!!!
