Curious as to what others that own a 98-05 911/996 have listed on their vehicle registration as the Model. Renewed mine a couple monthe ago and it has '942' in the MODEL block. Didn't do much about it until today when my son and I were at the DMV to get a title changed to his name and mine off as cosigner since he paid the loan off. I asked while I was there about my model # not correctly reflected and after calling the state (Tennessee bureau) i'm told the manufacturer assigns the model # to the VIN. So i'm asking what you others have on yours to see what is really going on. Find it hard to believe Porsche would assign a wrong model # to their VIN#

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. I'm in MA and mine says 911 Carrera 4
I'm guessing this depends on the state. IIRC, I self-reported my model number as "911", since that is what most people would consider the model number of my 1999 996. 911 is listed on my registration.

in MA they go by what's in the P&S agreement. That's what the dealer listed it as... 911 Carrera 4.
My Florida registration shows 911 coupe.
Mine in MA says just 911 even though it's a C4

+1 on my 996Turbo
anybody here living in Tennessee like me that can tell me what they have listed on Veh Reg for model #? I'm thinking it's this state's database that is screwed up. DMV is unwilling to correct it right now and just wants to pass the error on as someone elses database fault, you know the old "we just put in your VIN and that's what the database has for it".
Shouldn't the VIN have 996 in it?

a 996 will have "6" as the 12th digit (i.e. Vehicle Type Designation) of the VIN http://www.renntech.org/images/vin_d...INDecoder.html

You can bet before I purchased the car I did all my homework on the VIN. Yes it's got the '6' and it is a 2001 996. Hoping to run in to a 996 owner here locally, i've seen 1 or 2 in town, and ask them.

I have no doubt you did. Best of luck sorting this out.
In NY, only make is on the registration, not the model. But my insurance ID says "Carrer4" even though I have a C2.
