Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Went out today with the boys for a little drifting. mine is the low power c2 3.4l - front camber was 0 rear camber was -1 toe & castor was 0 i found the car was very difficult to drift. When it finally does, it wasnt easy to control. I had some high powered JDM prior. all in all I think the problems were: 1. Car was heavy 2. Underpowered 3. No LSD (Psm off) anyone got recommendations as to how improve my drift game?

POST 2Original post

The main problem is that the engine is in the back, as in it's heavy there. It takes a lot of angular momentum to get it to spin around an axis that's somewhat towards the front of the car (which is what you're trying to do when starting a drift). By default, rear engined cars will be hard to drift. Note how front-engined drift cars basically rotate around the axis of the engine. With power on the rear-wheels coming far from the center-of-mass, spinning it is going to be relatively easy. With a 911, heaviest in the back and powered there as well, not so much. Kinda like a shopping cart. When it's empty or all the weight is in the front, you can drift it around the corners like a mad-man. Put two crates of beer on the rear loading rack and the thing becomes near impossible to control.

Thanks for reply! Thats exactly what I thought I am in process of finding a clutch type LSD.. look at the japan drift king. He has no problems drifting a gt3 996 You Tube

POST 4Original post

Tires and HP play a part in drifting too. Not to mention the hand brake to get it all to "break/brake" loose.

POST 5Original post

I found my 996 GT3 significantly easier to drift on a race track than a tight course (like an auto-x). Particularly in the wet on a race track it was loads of fun and relatively easier. My car was very much a track and not a drift car. I took it to a drift event with a tight course and that didn't suit the car (or me I guess?). Set up goes a long way of course, I think an LSD is going to be a large part of that. Not that I have much experience with proper drift cars but having driven a handful, the more drifty set up you put into a car, the worse it gets for handling/grip.

POST 6Original post

You will need LSD and completely disable the PSM if your car has it.

POST 8Original post

Why don't you go all out and get a LWFW to change how the power is delivered - not good for the engine but then again drifting probably isn't good for the whole car.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Lol - I used to do rallying with my old Evo talked to a mate here- he said my set up was wrong. My rear tires were too wide. I need to change them to some ****ty narrower tires. I will need some sort clutch type LSD as well. My geo was also set up incorrectly - more castor and rear toe
