My 996 was a Porsche Exclusive program car when ordered new. I've been trying to figure out what, exactly, makes it exclusive . The lengthy list of options reveal nothing unusual that anyone could have ordered, but then that would just be a custom-ordered car and not an exclusive car. My 996 is Orient Red Metallic with a black full leather interior. Recently, I heard that Porsche only offered gray or tan interiors for cars finished in Orient Red Metallic. Of course, I have no way to confirm this. I did, however, write Porsche and asked if they could confirm two things: Were gray and tan the only interior options for cars finished in Orient Red Metallic? Is the black interior on my car the exclusive option? Porsche respond promptly and very courteously, but heres the pertinent part of their response: Not a real confirmation, but I'd really like to get solid, 100% confirmation. I'd like to know what was really exclusive about my car when it was ordered new. So, if anyone has any connections that could confirm this, that would be amazing! Save Save Save Save

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Sounds like the black interior with deviated stitching is your answer...Maybe a show room model for the upcoming year?
I wouldnt get too excited yet. The porsche logo embossed in my headrests gives it an exclusive option code. As I understand it, anything that deviates from the standard production line gets one of these codes. Then again, yours may be a unicorn.

Oh yeah, I figure it's likely not a unicorn but you never know! I heard Porsche only offered gray and tan interiors for that color from a former salesman, but I'd like that confirmed. I'd like to see some old documentation or something, or even talk to the original owner.
My 2003 Cab is Orient Red Metallic, with black interior and embossed headrests too. There are a couple of other ORM cars on here and I think all have black interior.
I think youve already answered your question, but it you absolutely must have more info why dont you go to the source? Porsche AG/Stuttgart...
Who told you the your car was exclusive, sales person?

Good to know! I didn't think mine would be a unicorn, but, I wanted to know for sure. A former salesman, but not anyone I was buying from. I've had my car a bit over a year, I just heard that a few weeks ago. I did email Porsche, they're response was polite, but vague.
I had a 2001 996 in Orient Red exterior and full leather black interior. I didn't know that it may have been an exclusive option but it was nice to see it stand out in the sea of silver and other colors at any Porsche gathering.
Some guy named Hans farted on the seats at the factory. Exclusive Hans Special they call it.
I would suggest getting the "Certificate of Authenticity" from Porsche. I'm not sure what's involved in getting the COA, but I suspect it will list the option -- though that COA description may also be vague. The COA for my car lists "Deviating Carpet Color", I'm not sure if that's the same thing you are talking about as an exclusive option, but that's the sum total of information provided (that may be why the Porsche rep was vague).
