Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I searched but did not find anything. Overall, how is the AC system in these? Are the later years better than the earlier ones? Do they work well or just mediocre? I realize that all vehicles can have problems, especially 15+ years old, but I would like to ensure that when the system is working, it will freeze your tail in Arizona or Texas during the summer.

POST 2Original post

I have never had a better AC system in any car that I own as compared to my 99 996. Enough said. I can't believe how good it works.

Same here, 99 996 as well. Ice cold in minutes in the whole cabin, if not seconds.

POST 5Original post

Very good. One of my 996's wasn't blowing as cold as I thought it should. I watched a couple videos on AC repair, replaced a leaking condenser plus the drier and a year later it still blows ice cold!

POST 6Original post

If it blows all of the foam off the diverter/mixing flaps it won’t be as effective. Seems to happen more with cars that live in hot humid environments. Fla, etc. otherwise excellent temp control.

POST 7Original post

Coming from the land of summers at 115F+, I can say, it's great.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the replies, glad to see it is good, will start getting serious about the search.

POST 9Original post

Sorry guys, but the AC sucks. I mean, I know all of your 996 AC systems works amazingly well, and the AC in both of my 996's worked great, but I'm afraid you will find the real truth in this article: https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cul...e-collectible/

POST 10Original post

Well, I read that article and the guy bashes everything from Porsche. In fact I've never read an article with so much venom towards Porsche. And it is not like he has real world experience...just a big mouth and an opinion. That is not the "real truth". BTW..my 996 20 year old AC works like a refrigerator, and I have not spent a dime on any parts for it.

Sorry Joe for not being very clear that I was totally being sarcastic. I just edited my post to make that more obvious. This guy's hatred is specifically for the 996, and almost all of it is dead wrong.

POST 12Original post

125K Florida miles and only had a relay go bad. A/C is still colder than my wife's new Benz. I can't say that about our Cayenne, but that's another animal.

POST 13Original post

Per DBJOE996's posting, +2; after living with two 993s and their mediocre A/C systems, my '99 996 can freeze me out! Plus, haven't spent a dime on it in 9 years. relinuca

POST 14Original post

My AC works fantastic and it has not been serviced in 4 years, 123,000+ miles.

POST 15Original post

15 years and 50,000+ miles and the A/C still blows cold every time!

POST 16Original post

It works surprisingly well and blows cold air, whereas 997.2 I have is somewhat cool and barely adequate.....

POST 17Original post

I believe I saw a video that said our cars have 2 A/C compressors in them, or something like that. Mine works fantastic in the TX heat so far.

POST 18Original post

Doesn't really matter, but only 1 AC compressor. However, there are two heat exchangers, two radiator fans....etc.

POST 19Original post

Got it. I think it was from the Doug DeMuro 996 video so maybe that's what he meant to say.
