I have noticed that one of my radiator fans seems to be inoperative. The other night I parked my car in the driveway near a puddle of water (the result of an earlier spring shower) and noticed that the airflow from the drivers side fan was rippling the standing water but the passenger side was not blowing any air. Last night when I got home I checked the output of both fans and this time the passenger side was blowing but not the drivers side. Do both of these fans turn on and off together? Or are they somehow regulated to only turn on and off as needed dependent on which radiator is warmest?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The radiator fans are operated as needed in two stages. Here is the description of how they trigger: Since both are triggered from the same source they should come on together. A quick test is to turn on the AC - both fans should come on to stage two (fast). If they do not then you should have the car checked. Most common failure I have seen is the ballast resister on one side - but that would only affect one side (to my knowledge).
