I know, these kind of questions come up all the time and the answers are subjective. But what the heck... My wife (bless her Porsche loyal heart) has been waiting for a 997 Cab, but we are reluctant to make the move due to the quality issues sited on the 997 board and the fact that it's still a full retail order. I see that there are 8-10 996 C4S Cabs on dealer lots in the Western U.S. and I'm guessing one could be had for $10-15k off list. Any thoughts or comments? Happy New Year!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. I would save the $$ and go for the C4S.
Agree with C4S.tried and true...no first year bugs.....car looks so great, hard to improve upon.......a classic....for many years........both cars probably will be........I think the 996 will get better respect as the yeasr go by.....the front lights have anice edge to them.......997 fronts look too plain..........IMO
What can I say?
My vote for the C4S Cab... the car has been rock solid. I bought mine in Jan. and have 18,000 miles on it. Not a single issue. Good luck!
OK guys, help me out with some options here. What are the following: XCE - rear center console aluminum look - I know what the console is and I know what aluminum gauges are (almost white). So, in this car does the console look like brushed aluminum or white? P82 - Technic Package - what is it? Z0997 - Custom Tailoring - what is it? Y29 - Aluminum/Chrome X71, X70, X54 - what are these?
Skip the console and order it (from us) after you get the car, save hundred$, promise. Alumalook resembles the flaked silver color of the shifter/brake handle/ and various other parts in the car (glove box opening handle). It's not a big deal, and most folks prefer either stock interior color or exterior body color to match (we do that). Technic Package - heated seats, bose, bi-xenons and colored crested wheel caps Custom Tailoring means the car went to the exclusive department for something post production. Could be stitching, could be key fob leather pouch. I did my fuse panel in interior leather ($95) and it looks great on lighter interiors. All exclusive options are Z099__ numbers. Y29 package is mostly door sills, shifter/brake, pipes and gauges. I did not care for the gauges in lighter finish so I did not order them on mine.
Thanks Eric! These are options on cars in dealers inventory, so I have to take whatever they have available. Happy New Year!
I'd go for the 997S - lighter, faster.
996 C4S Cab, unique and rare, 997 cabs will be a dime a dozen. also let the bugs be worked out.
I bought my 2004 C4s cabriolet in January. The car has been perfect and will become a classic.
c4s cab................all the way
