Greetings! I'm a newbie to the board(sorry - don't even have a picture yet) After spending what I would consider ample time researching cars and test driving them, I bit the bullet and fulfilled a life long dream and bought my first 911! As my Login states, my parents have owned 911's for almost 40 strait years. From the time I was brought home from the hospital, my parents have been ripping through So. Cal with my brother and I jammed in the back seat. Needless to say I am very happy with my purchase and have been catching up on old memories every weekend. One thing that has me a tad bit concerned is after every "going through the gears" sessions, I come home and seem to smell a little something. My first instinct was that the seller had the engine steam cleaned or something that left a little residue that is burning off. But it has been about three weeks (for me three weekend blow outs) and it is not going away. The temp stays pretty solid at 180-185 whether I am charging up hills in 3rd gear or just cruising. The car sounds great and feels even better. I did get a PPI from a reputable shop and the guy told me the car was in top shape. It is an '02 with 45k. I have not noticed any leaks, just the odd smell. Is this normal? (I will get working on the pics for you guys)

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Don't worry - the smell is normal; mine smells too! That's part of the experience.

From another '02 cab owner: congrats! Yes, my car smells too, and I'm glad you asked because I did occasionally wonder about it. Now I know "they all do that"! Michael
Congrat's and welcome to Rennlist. Looking forward to seeing pics of the car.
There was just a thread on this very topic, search for it.
Congrats and welcome to Rennlist! WTF, no pics? I am sure you will post some pics VERY soon, won't you? Hey, guys do you like my new "pic" approach? Again, welcome to Rennlist. There are a lot of knowledgeable people here to help. Just remember one thing... OK, two things: 1) Search is your friend and 2) Post some !@$%^& pics!

I'm impressed. The new kinder, gentler Tim. You've actually been quiet this week, I was wondering where you were.
I was getting depressed because there were no "newbies" to bash. Unfortunately for Phil, he posted a few times so I took my frustrations out by making fun of him. I guess I need to think about apologizing to him..................................................... OK, I thought about it and decided not to!
Maybe Tim noticed that we have had a lot less newbies lately and that was because he was so blunt with the last few that it has stopped people from wanting to be part of the Rennlist family. So now Tim has decided to be gentle and maybe he could sell his car by being so
