Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I found an '02 through Carmax and I can not tell from the pics if it has Xenon or Litronics, whichever Porsche calls it. If it doesnt, it is a deal breaker.

POST 2Original post

Cory - No, bi-xenon lights were not standard on the 996. They were an option. If the car does not have the silver oval disk (which covers the headlight washer) then the headlights are not bi-xenon.

POST 4Original post

Cory - are you looking at the whige one at the Gulf Freeway store?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is that in Plano? That is where it is located

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes it is, I got it mixed with another car. Why? Is there something wrong with it?

POST 7Original post

Mine does not have the silver disk which I like for its smoother looks. Do I want litronics? Sure, but not a deal breaker for me. HIDs are nice, but not a must-have so long as it's got the projector lenses on it.

POST 8Original post

I have never seen an 02+ w/o HID headlights. I'm sure it is extremely rare to find one without them and definately could be toxic to resale.

POST 9Original post

I had a 04 and 05 C4S without it. Did not bother me at all!! As a matter of fact there is a big problem in the south florida area where many porsche owners have had their headlight assemblies stolen because they were Xenon. Each unit costs about $1,500.00 times 2 = $3,000.00 plus the body work and paint required to fix the fenders. It got to be a real expensive option to many owners. I even read in the paper where some p-car owners were selling their cars because it had happened to them more than once. Do not let this be a deal breaker, there are more important things to consider.

POST 10Original post

it's one thing if the '02 headlights w/o litronics came with the halogen relflective units which look dated, but they don't so... i came from the s2000 which has the best HIDs to this day, but do i miss it? not really. now the thing i want are the LED main headlights like on the lexus LS. those are siq.

POST 11Original post

Was there a retrofit option after '02 in the same way as the 99-01 cars? I've seen plenty of pre facelift cars get the retrofit option, but can't say I've noticed '02 onwards.....

POST 12Original post

Ben....don't you have a c4s? I thought bi xenons were standard on that model? (meaning that technic package)? J

POST 13Original post

True, but if the non Xenon headlights are projectors too, do you think crooks will notice that they don't have the silver disc?

POST 15Original post

I mean really, if you're spending $100K+, what is a $1200 option?

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok, now I need clarification. I assumed projectors and Xenons were one in the same? Some of you say you can have projectors without Xenons?

POST 17Original post

No many of them did not know the difference. They thought they were Xenon because the assemblies had the projection type lamps.

POST 18Original post

No, I know nothing about the car. I was just curious if that was the car you were looking at. I sent you a PM.
