Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Some very good reading for the masses...Note: Mostly about the 996 3.4L motor. From Total 911 Magazine (UK): http://www.autofarm.co.uk/pdf/Total911_July06.pdf And another...From 911 Porsche World (UK): http://www.autofarm.co.uk/pdf/911PW_Apr06.pdf Yes, a repost but still good reads. C.

POST 2Original post

Excellent post Chad. I also recall an Excellence magazine which took apart a M96 engine with over 100K miles. That engine had a tighter tolerance than spec and was healthy. Perhaps Porsche was too loose with their spec tolerance and ended up with a bad reputation. One of the measuring tools distributed was for the RMS that came out during the M96's production period.

POST 3Original post

Very helpful repost. The only thing I'd advise is to take note of the publication dates. Some of the speculation about newer vs. older engines and so on, likely isn't going to be helpful for quoting in future debates, given the experiences of some here.

POST 4Original post

Technically great write-ups - useful background for all 996 owners/buyers The actual percentages/numbers... Only Porsche know for sure

It's interesting that the Autofarm info on cylinders is directly contradicted in Adrian's 996 book. Who is right about Lokasil?

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
