Guys, I have a 1999 996 coupe with the stock (non-sport) exhaust. I have the opportunity to get a GT3 exhaust from a friend. Is this exhaust the same as the dealer claims, or was the exhaust on the GT3 better? Also, will it fit my 996 coupe easily, without major modifications? thank you very much in advance.
They will not fit. The GT3 engine is based on a 993 air cooled bottom end and has water cooled heads. The 996 is a completely water cooler engine designed for the Boxster and 996 coupe. The headers will not bolt on and the design of the pipes for the catalytics and mufflers will not hook up. There is little power to be gained on mufflers so modifying the GT3 ones would not be worth it. Go out and buy the PSE or an after market mufflers. If you wanted headers and free flow cats go call FVD as they have them for the 996.
DITTO Mufflers alone will get you nothing as far as HP, just for better sound. Headers are the best for HP, then sport catalytics. Also he is correct, GT3 mufflers won't work. Evan
