Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys, while hardwiring my V1 this weekend, I discovered these oddiments under both sides of my dash. The first system is a transmitter/battery/antenna for lojack, which I don't subscribe to, and was probably just sucking my battery. Aren't these supposed to be hidden well? The second system was wired to the clutch position switch, to power, to ground, and has two switches that were taped together and heat shrink wrapped. The real wierd part was a flat push switch which was hidden under the carpet on the left side of the center console. What is this all about? Both systems kinda creeped me out since I didn't know they were there in the first place, so I removed them promptly. The V1 install went well btw, thanks to the many posts here about hardwiring it with the unused heated seat harness. Thanks, Sean

What model year is your car and is it from Beverly Hills Porsche?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's a 99 and I beleive it was originally purchased at Beverly Hills Porsche. I am the second owner.

POST 5Original post

The second system was so that the car could not be started unless the hidden switch was held down. The switch location was marked with a small piece of black electical tape on the carpeted trim panel, but that tape usually fell off. This was done by a stereo shop that did work for Beverly Hills Porsche back then. All cars that I have seen in our area had the system disconnected.

POST 6Original post

My car was originally from Beverly Hills Porsche. It has a switch in the same location that needs to be pushed in order to start the car with the clutch depressed. Kind of a mickey mouse theft deterent. I hate the damn thing. When I take the time to do away with my PSE european 20-45mph noise suppressor, I think I'll take care of that annoying switch at the same time. Tom L 2002 C2

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ahh, thanks Tool Pants! Very Interesting. After I took all that out I was afriad it wouldn't start or I missed something else, but all is well. How many of these rigs have you found?

POST 8Original post

Every 986 from Beverly Hills that we have worked on at our work on cars day in Northern California. Hard to miss the thing that looks like a fuse holder and what looks like speaker wires all over the place under the dash and up to the clutch interlock switch.
