Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

23 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

One of my friend's Dad's owns a small dealership that's going out of business and he has two 911's that he'd sell me for something in the high 20's. Both are C2s, 1 owner cars, and they're both silver with black leather. One is a 2001 with 17k mi and the full aero kit and the other is a 2004 with 32k mi. I ran them both through Carfax and they're clean, and the 2004 has full receipts for all the maintenance. Which would you go for? I understand the 3.6 is nicer but is it anymore reliable than say the 3.4? What year were the intermediate shafts updated? I like the looks of the aero kit but the 2004 felt a lot more refined.

"One of my friend's Dad's owns a small dealership that's going out of business..." That sounds like the beginning of a bad story... All things being equal buy the newest one you can afford... Do a search for 996 buying guide... And get a certified mechanic to do an inspection...carmax doesn't mean jack

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's not a shady deal, he's been selling off his inventory for a while now but the Porsche's haven't sold in this market. He's just selling it for what he paid for them at auction. I think I feel more comfortable with the '04 because of the glovebox full of receipts and the full dealer maintenance. That being said even though I have no problem tearing apart and rebuilding exotic cars, I will be buying a warranty. I just wanted to know is a better value and can handle a beating.

Both in the high 20's? It seems ridiculous to consider an '01 when an '04 is similarly priced. There has been no significant IMS update throughout the life of the M96. The IMS no longer exists for 2009.

POST 6Original post

For nearly the same money 2004. Get a PPI completed on it and if it checks out, drive it like you stole it. Which ever one you get you'd better post some !@#$^&(* pics ! Hey guys, I jumped all over him BEFORE he bought the car. I am NOT losing my touch!

POST 7Original post

Get the facelift. Don't worry about the mileage- these cars were meant to be driven. Post some pics and welcome to Rennlist. Membership is worth every penny.

POST 8Original post

I put "high 20's" down on my 04 C4S cab... I would get the 04 - that's a no brainier.

POST 9Original post

If he bought an 01 from the auction in the high 20s it is no wonder he is going out of business. Buy the 04 it is a no brainer

POST 12Original post

Without your location we can't really give you any idea of value because it is often driven by local factors.

location and pics please

POST 15Original post

Is the dealer willing to buy 99's as trade for this 04' awe location please ....

POST 17Original post

You know that I'd pick the '04. That it's selling in the 20's is scary.

POST 19Original post

I'd go for the 01. Not for any particular reason of merit, just wanted to present an opposing opinion to prevent a unanimous response. I like being a contrarian and stirring up controversy.

SkiRacer, When are you going to update your avatar with a pic of your car wearing those spiffy BBS wheels? What are you waiting on, spring?

POST 22Original post

Uh, same money - why would you dream of taking an older car over a newer one with records??

POST 23Original post

'04 - hands down. neither have miles worth a 2nd thought
