POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys...I just had a guy call me (a couple times) and beat me up over my price. I am offering my car at $40K obo. From what I have found, I have the lowest priced, lowest mileage, cleanest, 996 Aerokit car in the country. Is this a good price for what the car is? here's the link: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/202660-f-s-1999-996-carrera-and-goodies-updated-pics-st-louis-area.html Chad

POST 2Original post

I think it is a very fair price for an aerokit 99

POST 3Original post

Hey Chad... I think your price is kinda on the low side. If you were asking $42,500...I probably wouldn't balk knowing what you've done to it mod wise and stuff. Jim

POST 4Original post

That is low..i sold my 2000 996 with 23k miles for 44k...

POST 5Original post

The price is good, however, mods tend to lower the value of a car in general. Sometimes it is best to strip the car back to stock and sell the parts sep. I think you should be able to sell it, just be patient.

POST 6Original post

Took me two months to sell my Ferrari at a VERY attractive price. Be patient Chad.

POST 7Original post

I buy and sell stuff all the time. It is a ****ty sellers market right now. In all seriousness, that car would sell better with your 02 five spokes on it. They give the car more "depth".

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys. The guy was a moron. I thought I was in the right ballpark. Thanks for the feedback. Chad

POST 9Original post

As a reference point, I sold my 2000 GR/Blk C2 in December for $42K. It had 23K miles, Litronics, Fabspeed and Carrera 5-spoke wheels.

POST 10Original post

It is the buyer's job to devalue your product offering and get the lowest price. Doesn't make him a moron. He doesn't have an emotional investment in the car. Patience.

POST 11Original post

I think you have it priced right, at least by MD standards for a private sale. A guy who works at Valley Motors in MD has a well equipped '99 996 with 27K miles for sale for $40k. I imagine the car wholesales in the low $30s, so you should get high $30s at a minimum.

POST 12Original post

chad, as of today i found >70 '99 996s listed nationaly for under $40k. there were quite a few in the low to mid thirties w/ similar miles as yours. i sold an '00 c2 for $30k and it was loaded , albeit w/ high mileage. it's the old bird in the hand...if you've got a ready and willing buyer, try to meet in middle and sell it now. i eventually sold it for $5k less than my first offer six months previous.

POST 13Original post

I think your price is more than fair for the car. However, I think your modifications can scare off a large majority of the potential buyers that only want a Porsche 911 without knowing too much about the cars. Therefore, you are more than likely going to get more knowledgeable buyers that will inquire. Unfortunately these same buyers also happen to be the ones that actually think and/or will talk the talk that all the 996 prices are "sinking fast" and the 996 cars are basically worthless or soon will be and will negotiate very hard on the price. Patience will be key with your car. If you want a quicker sale and/or less of hassle you may consider putting the car back to stock form (i.e. factory suspension, GT3 delete, and factory steering wheel). The biggest problem with modifications is you have to find a buyer that wants the exact same mods you have done. As popular as aftermarket suspensions are on Rennlist, we are in the minority and the majority of the general public associates non-factory suspensions with driving hard, abuse, racing, track work and/or just rice (and none of it probably true but that doesnt matter as it is all about perception). Personally I think you could put the car back to stock and get the same price if not more for it. Then make some money selling the mods to enthusiast on a site like this. Good luck on your sale.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You are correct on the offering. It was the conversation and the way he conducted himself during the conversation. Others have asked for lower prices as well. However, they did with respect. THIS guy was a moron. Chad

POST 16Original post

Rob's point is right on the money. Go a little less for somebody that has cash in hand and is willing to transact NOW! Another good point. Or at least break even for the cost to put back to stock -

POST 17Original post

Apparently so, because his strategy created a deadlock, i.e. you walked.

POST 18Original post

Chad.....I would glady pay $40K to you today if I was ready to pull the trigger on another 996 since I know what you have done and would like all of it. But I am not picking up another car (dedicated for the track) till next spring when we move back east so I don't have to transport another ride. I would proably even have paid a bit more since it is more track ready than most.

POST 19Original post

Crap! Two months ago I would've jumped all over it for that price. It actually sounds kind of low.

POST 20Original post

Chad, I would also buy your car for 40K. I think it's a very fair price... be patient and you will get the right buyer. I have 2 people that are looking for a first time 911, I'm going to show them the pics of the car and let you know. Rob

In August 2004 I saw an '02 996 with less than 10K miles and moderately equipped for $59.9K. It wasn't exactly what I wanted but it was close enough for me to make an offer. I offered $55K and I was willing to go as high as $56K. The Dealer was firm on his price and wouldn't budge. As of May 14, 2005 that car still sits on Len Stoler's Porsche lot in MD. The car is still listed for $59.9K.
