I think how common a Porsche is depends on where you are geographically, They are quite common around here.

I agree. You beat me to it. They're quite common around here (SoCal) too.
They are so rare around here that I have never seen a 997 on the road. Evar!
Quotes source posts: 5440211, 5440217
Yes, they are like tribbles. Worse yet, if two 996s or 997s are parked near each other, a Boxster appears by the next morning. Worse than guppies I tell ya.
Pretty common around here. Boxsters seem to dominate, but I'll see everything from '70s and '80s 911, 964, and 993 up to 996 and 996TT on pretty much a daily basis. Living within a 10 mile radius of a Porsche dealer and at least three independent shops might contribute somewhat to that.

In a high per capita income state like New Jersey, I'd expect to see alot of Porsches. Except that I don't (of course the real money in New Jersey is in the northern part of the state!). I, on the other hand, rarely see them in the southern and central parts of the state.
Geographic is right. My son and I parked next to a new Boxster S at the local coffee house this weekend. When we returned, my son says, 'wow dad, look at all the Porsches parked next to us!' We counted 9, including ours, scattered in our row. And mine was the only poorman's pcar (i.e., 'base' model). Or maybe that was the lonely Boxster owner. Kid you not...
I see at least one or two a day in Raleigh. More often then Mini Coopers. John
It's more economic than geographic. The danger, my fellow high-end Porsche owners, is thinking our cars are anywhere near "common". I've driven through parts of my own county where the average salary is half of what our cars cost originally. We are all very lucky to be able to own and maintain these expensive cars! We should never loose sight of that!
Hmm, I'm lucky if I see one a day.
See 'em all the time around Atlanta. 997's, 996's, Boxsters, and vintage. Love this area. C.

I am lucky to see another one per month. If it wasn't for the interstate I don't think I would. But you have to realize that I live here: Rolla, Missouri The median income for a household in the city was $26,479, and the median income for a family was $38,975. Males had a median income of $31,861 versus $19,625 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,916. About 13.8% of families and 22.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 22.3% of those under age 18 and 13.8% of those age 65 or over.

Just got back from a week in Santa Barbara. They're almost as common as Ferraris there.

Yes, we are all blessed and shouldn't forget! Just a coincidence that I'm frequently having these types of conversations with my offspring.

That's not saying much though. I think I see maybe 2 per day in our area... so I'm guessing pretty common. It's funny, because I went back to the UK a couple of weeks ago - the area I grew up in is in the sticks - not much out there, but in one day I saw 2 Porsches, 2 Aston Martins and a Koenigsegg. I think the place has gone upmarket since I left there. I'm telling you that it was pretty shocking to see this bright yellow Koenigsegg barreling towards me on a narrow country lane.
I live on a street that is 3 blocks long. Busy street on one end and a community part on the other. I have two and there are 4 others on that 3-block strip. It is not unusual to see one several 996/997s on the way to work. Pretty common. ~Guy
There are three in my neghborhood of about 100 houses.
2 on my street of 12 houses
1700 sold cars last month, how did they get so profitable ?

heh Wait 'till you drive down PCH around Newport Beach
Fairly common to see where I live too.........jus' 'cause we Texxxxans don't mean we don't like niiiiiice thangs (actually I don't talk like that)

Drove PCH through Malibu - didn't go as far south as Newport Beach. Between the cars and the houses -- awfully nice area. But you can have your California traffic! Toured some great wineries in St. Ynez mtns which was just great fun - what I remember of it anyway.
Quotes source post: 5441115
Arnee, You down there in NB? I get out to Newport Coast and around Fashion Island a few times a week. My 'base' Carrera gets unnoticed (preferably) around them new Bentleys, AMG MBZs, etc! Really crazy over there.

Have you been to Cars and Coffee in Irvine on Sat AMs? Good stuff
there are certainly a few in Houston. Driving to and from work every day I prob see 1 or 2 boxsters and 1 or 2 911s (996 or 997). Relatively rare given the traffic. I wonder - how friendly are other p-car owners when you see or pull up next to them? In Houston they stare straight ahead and pretend to be statues.
I'm on temp detail in Washington, D.C., staying with my sister 'till I find a short term apartment to rent. She lives in a fairly affluent suburb of Arlington, VA, just across the river from DC. In the morning, I wait 5-10 minutes for the bus on one of the busier roads through the neighborhood. For grins I've been counting the Porsche's and Beemer's I see in the morning while I wait.. I'd say I usually see 2-3 Porsches, but the Beemers are thick as fleas.. probably see 5x that many.. - Nick

Atlanta is a weird demographic. It has gone through several phases since Sherman's march which has left money in the strangest places. We are experiencing a serious case of McMansionitis where well heeled individuals are moving into fairly depressed areas and revitalizing zones that were near death just a few years ago. With that, P-cars (cute the way you guys use that) are starting to show up everywhere. You use to only see them in Buckhead/midtown and the Northern Metro. Now they are showing up all around the downtown area with the influx of afluence. Atlanta has also become a hot spot for pro athletes, entertainers, music producers and the like. A lot of one-upmanship leaves a lot of low miles exotics on the auction block. Just make sure all the "residue" is detailed out before you encounter your next road block

Yep. Been to the Irvine C&C a few times. Agree on the good stuff. 1st time I went, my buddies on their Harleys had me follow them in. Little did I know I followed them into the 'show' area with my filthy car. Sheeesh.
On another note, Aston Martin sales must be picking up, I must have seen 5-6 AM's this week!
well, the michigan economy is famous for getting the economic equivalent of the flu when the rest of the country gets the sniffles, but despite that, here in oakland county, there are plenty of porsches, quattroportes, and aston martins out and about. i was at the neighborhood market recently to pickup some things for dinner and my p-car was one of 4 in the lot.

I figured the same thing when I saw 3 in short period of time... that's a car that you hardly ever see.
Porsches common? They will be extinct in my garage in a week!
Quotes source post: 5443043
Tim, you are (literally) breaking my heart. You'll be back - I'm sure of it. Just please stay on the board.
Quotes source post: 5443087
Phil, I'm not going anywhere. I have to stick around and see pics of your new ride. You and I will be getting new rides within the next week or so.... your's will be a TT and mine will be a 1987 Honda with only 258,321 miles on it, which is about 100 times the miles you have on your 996! Well, at least MY car will be "broken in!" Besides, who is going to give you the knid of **** I'll give you when you ask your next "I know I SHOULD know this but... " question? (think "how to remove the little green 3/4 circle" question) Sorry Phil, but that one cracks me up every time I think about it!
I see at least 6 or more a day in the Orlando area
I have to agree that it's geographic rather than economic. Here in my neck of the woods, there's one 360 and one Gallardo, owned by friends, are the rare ones. Porsches are drowned in a sea of high end MB's and BMW's. I believe that regardless of where you are, those two marques will be more common than our Porsches.
Quotes source post: 5443683
Tim, I will never live that one down. For those who aren't aware, the 'little green circle' is the cruise control indicator light on the dash - which I had no idea how to eliminate until Tim "enlightened" me. In fact, I thought it was some sort of error light. After that post, I felt like an enlightened idiot.
Driving from Vegas to Delaware, I saw three: 2 944s in TN and a 996 Turbo in MD. Guess it's slim pickings in the heartland.
Pretty common here too. There are at least 3 911's in my neighborhood now + lots of Boxsters, older 911's and 944's, + 3 ferraris, 1 Bentley Conti coupe and a AM Vantage. I don't even live in a very affluent neighborhood; pretty much a middle class area. Maybe it's our strong Canuck buck and all these cars are coming in from the states.
We have 10 houses tucked into our neighborhood, and 4 porches. 1-912 (garaged), 1-993, 1-Cayenne and my 996. Out of those houses, only two households have porches. 1 household owns the 912, 993 & the cayenne and it's not me. And I thought I was a porsche nut - Hi, Mark...sell me the 912 already! I would say that in the western suburbs of Minneapolis, you see more porsches than corvettes. Strong P-dealership (Carousel) I assume. Although the vette crowd always has matching hats...what is up with that. Porsche has a slightly stronger than .2% market share in my hood! I never see Aston's in our area - no dealer support. And very few Bentley's (I think I see one a month if that and it may be the same two guys).
