The system was bought new in March 2011 and has less than 5k easy miles on it. No track days. I dyno'ed 430hp to the rear wheels on a mustang dyno on a 997.1 C2S. The system will fit any 996/997 Carrera, C4 or C4S. Price is $4,600 plus shipping (retails for $8,000) for any 996. I'm selling because it voids my aftermarket warranty and I want to upgrade the suspension. I am the first owner of this system. For any questions please pm or email me at [email removed] EDIT: You must have VF retune your ECU, I can not give the buyer my ECU. A tune from VF is an additional $1,200... photo12_zps9ab0e7ed.jpg

Any photos of it in action? At least of the engine?
These are great units. I just drove Ferd's supercharged car in the twisties leaving Lime Rock Park last summer. It is very smooth and predictable with its power delivery. Not quite the power/torque of a turbo but like butter...

Updated with a photo of it in my 997.1 C2S Interesting. I had a 996 turbo and this system on my 997.1 C2S pulls noticeably harder, especially in the higher RPM's
If it's not too much to ask, when you finally pull the kit, can you please post pictures of the parts? Or better yet, take pics while the parts are coming off. I would lime to build a kit for my car and it would greatly help if I didn't have to reinvent the way the SC was attached to the engine.
Quotes source post: 10235322
The kit has already been pulled off. Unfortunately the car is still at my local shop getting some other work done but I can post pictures of the kit when I get my car back later this week.
Quotes source post: 10235345
Cool, that'll work too.
Quotes source post: 10235353
If I may ask, what are you hoping to see? There is a picture of the complete kit on the VF website.
Quotes source post: 10235380
Sometimes parts stay assembled when they are removed. This is good for figuring things out.
Quotes source post: 10235401
Got it, I'll try and get some pics by the end of the week
Quotes source post: 10235401
Are you interested in buying the system?
I already have a Vortech head unit and would like to build a set up for my 996. I did a home built system for my 928, eight years ago. I'm looking for details. However, anyone looking for a kit should seriously consider yours. The price is excellent.
Imre, your gonna blow up your 996.

Please explain...
SC'ing a M96 with 11:1 CR. Wonder how long the rods will last before they exit engine? Low boost and high CR is an inefficient way to SC an engine, especially one as marginal as the M96. These are pretty much maxed out with @350HP. Pumping them to 450HP+?? Cant be good. I would like to see some durability tests of a SC M96. But,, I know IMre has the ability to try it and a backup plan if it explodes.

From Nik Saran over at VF, " We tune based upon dynamic sensor feedback while testing vehicles and staying within certain tolerances, the primary ones being EGT and ignition correction. We have been supercharging 911s since 2002 and cover models from 1999 to 2008. During that range we have not seen any reasons not common issues/traits with reliability."
Properly tuned a low boost high compression ratio engine is a good package .There isn't much difference in effective compression ratio between a 11to 1 6 pounds boost and a 8to 1 15 pound boost .The big difference would be the 11to 1 will have more low end grunt and responsiveness . That seems to be the direction Ford and Chevy are headed .Of course DFI helps .
Quotes source post: 10246275
Thanks for the explanation
I disagree. The better VE (not effective CR) will come from low CR with high boost vs. high CR with low boost. Low and high being relative terms of course. For example, new Porsche 911: NA engine 12.5 CR TT engine 9.8 CR Granted its a little higher than 8.5 CR but no where near 12.5 CR. Better call Porsche and tell them their wrong. VF is trying to sell a bolt on product. It may work (for a little while) but it is not the ideal way to SC. If JR says Im wrong, I will certainly retract all and STHU.
No point in debating your mind is made up .Maybe unencumbered by facts but made up .
Quotes source post: 10248479
Thanks for not drawing that out.
Dcd, not trying to be argumentative. I know the new turbos and SC'ers are light years ahead of what we worked with in the 80's like the old 6-71 and 8-71 blowers. That being said there is much more to SC'ing a NA M96 or any engine for that matter than just adding a compressor. I doubt the durability. If Jr weighs in, Im fine with what he says.
Why are you crapping on this thread which is a "FS" thread and not a thread about reliability? VF themselves said there have been no issues since they've been making them since 2002. If there were reliability issues, we would've already heard about them from various members. You can probably ask JR on his opinion tonight on your date and he will probably say there isn't enough evidence to support your "theory". Sorry OP, back to your FS topic on hand.
Alp, funny post but relax. He asked me to explain see? So I did. Not here to "crap" on thread but offer explaination on my opinion as he asked. By all means SC, Turbo, and add N20 to an M96, its his decision. After all what the hell do I know being as I have never built any engines?

In all fairness I was forced to ask you to explain following your snide comment below Curiously, of all the VF systems you've worked with, used and or had friends use how many blew up the motor?
Quotes source post: 10248892
By the way, thanks a lot for this
Probably bc its in the forum section and not the classifieds. He already has a classified add. I know this gets more exposure but be ready for opinions.

Without trying to open a can of worms (cause I think this could get ugly real fast), with this being in the forum section I still dont think a comment like the one below is warranted, but I could be wrong I've been on this, and other big Porsche forums for a little while now, did my research on VF and talked with the owner extensively and couldnt find one story/post on a VF kit blowing a motor. As KrazyK pointed out, on paper the way VF is supercharging cars may or may not be the most efficient, I actually dont know, but what I do know is that VF has sold over 700 versions of this kit world wide for the better part of a decade without any reported failures (at least non that I could find) so telling people this kit will blow up their motor, imo, isnt called for.
Correct, and I never make insults towards those that disagree with me. The comment about Imre was a joke and he knows it. He's one of the few that actually knows what the hell hes doing and I dont consider myself as one of the experts.
Quotes source post: 10249450
It doesnt matter if Imre knows what you said is a joke. You posted it on a public forum and a passing reader may take it very seriously, heck I did. And personally, joking about something for sale potentially blowing up a motor isnt something I'd do in someone else's ad, but that's just me. I'm all for cautioning/aiding other forum member with proper information (that's what forums are for), and maybe in this case I didnt do enough research and you've seen more motors than you'd like blown up as a direct result of VF's SC system, I dunno..? Maybe I'm just an idiot for believing Nik Saran and the guys over at VF.
Carnerd might not agree but I think this thread has been useful - from the standpoint of highlighting how many VF installs there are .That is a big number with no negative press. Certainly indicates a well engineered product and satisfied customers .What else is there ?

Thanks and that's what I'd hope readers would take away from this thread, but when you talk about blowing up an engine, jokingly or not, it always plants a seed of doubt.
A couple years back I believe VF did state 500+ 996/997 units were sold... I know 1 997 with a VF that blew engine but that as the IMS that went...
Quotes source post: 10251824
Ya when I bought the car I had a PPI done at vision Motorsports in Costa Mesa and Dwaine (the owner) assured me that the supercharger wouldnt stress the IMS anymore normal. That was definitely something I was concerned about
do u mind me asking why u have decided to take it out? looks like u have owned a few turbos.... m
Quotes source post: 10259712
I dont mind at all. There are a few reasons. I had a 996 turbo and 996 GT3, both which I tracked heavily. The turbo was heavily modified (motons, seats, brembos, etc), and while it was faster on the track I always seemed to prefer the driving experience of the GT3 (never was a huge fan of boost on the track). The SC came with the car and it voids an after market warranty that I have so that's reason 2, but the main reason is because I need the money to upgrade my suspension. Thanks
Why on earth would anyone sell their GT3? Those cars were awesome, especially the 996 models. IMO they had the best looks out of any other GT3.
Quotes source post: 10260644
8 years ago my father developed an extremely severe variant of Parkinson's and I sold the car to help my mother pay for a full handicap addition to their house so he could spend the remainder of his life at home instead of suck in a hospital bed. Seemed like a pretty damn good reason to me but thanks for your comments KrazyK, as always, they are ever so greatly appreciated.
Thats certainly a good reason, sorry to read that. I assumed there was something about the GT3 you didnt like. They are probably going to be much sought after collector cars one day. Pardon the mistaken assumption.
I found out from VF that it will actually cost about $600 to make this smoothly fit on a 996 and unfortunately that's too big of a hit for me to cover. I've lowered the price to $4,000 FIRM plush shipping but that's $4,600 FIRM plus shipping for any 996....
Doh! I'd be all over this, if I hadn't purchased it new in December. This is a heck of a price! Good luck with the sale. Somebody should jump on this! Here's my install progress over on the 6. http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/9...r-install.html
Hey Alp, I didnt even have to ask but I suspected I was right before I even found this. Seems to be very close to the same problems I posted and Im not the expert.
Found out this system will actually take a bit more than $600 to properly fit a 996. Thread closed.
