Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quick/simple question......Do you turn off the A/C before turning off the engine? Thanks.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have always thought that when you leave it on and then turn the back engine on it could not be good... Compare it to when the power goes out at home and then comes back on.... The power surge can not be good for the electronics....

POST 6Original post

I used to turn the AC off before shutdown back in the 70's, otherwise the compressor stayed on even during start-up. New cars nowadays have the AC automatically turned off during start-up, with a few second delay upon engine start. So, no, I no longer turn the AC off before shut-down or start-up.

POST 7Original post

I guess Porsche doesn't have the same problem, but with BMW's E39 5 series if you didn't turn off the A/c about 30 seconds before shutting the car off, during the summer months youd get a real musty smell coming out of your vents.

POST 9Original post

My climate control always turns on when I turn on the car. I always have to manually dial it to off..
