Coming from an Audi TT quattro with snow tires into my '99 C2 with no LSD or PSM, I was a little apprehensive about how winter driving would go. Well, first significant snowfall came this week and out I went with my winter wheels and tires installed. As a frame of reference, my old TT was unstoppable, especially with the snow tires. It always felt like driving on dry pavement. With the ESP (PSM equivalent) on, the car never stepped out of line, never plowed, just went where I pointed it and if it couldn't negotiate the speed it would just slow down, totally under control. In comes the 911. Obviously with much wider tires, lower profile and rear wheel drive only, it doesn't have anywhere near the traction. First thoughts going up a slight incline were "hmm, it wheels are slipping - I better not stop here". Then I realized looking at other front wheel drive cars around me that my car wasn't actually doing any worse than they were in terms of traction. As I continued to drive in the snow and got accustomed to the car's behaviour, I started to realize how sensitive the feedback is. This car is phenomenal at communicating what's going on. I could feel exactly when the tires were slipping, when the front or back was just starting to slide or step out. The amount of control you're able to have when you can just "feel" what's going on is incredible. Throttle steering in the snow is a true joy and totally controllable. What a stark contrast to the numbness in the TT. Even though that car had far more traction, I still felt more in control with the 911. What a car..... For those of you that drive yours in snow, be careful, and ENJOY! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

and to you too! Tonight should be good for a little p-car fun in the snow. It's coming down now and 15-20cm are expected!
YEA, I agree.... great cars in the snow, a little nervous to actually try it, but WOW Take it easy too
s-spiff: I just pick up an 02 C2 without PSM and I live in Toronto also. I came from an RX-8 with Stability Control and I made it through the winters. Be ready for some sideways action up anything resembling a hill.
My Targa with winter tires is the best car I've ever driven in the snow.
Last winter, we had an unexpected snow storm that dumped multiple inches in a few hours. I did as well or better with my 996 on summer tires than many of the other cars. It's ironic to see how many of the cars that slide off the road have 4wd/awd. (clearly, it's not the fault of the car--but the nut behind the wheel). Anyway, even with summer tires, had no problem getting around on snow & ice...especially when you can feel what's going on so well.
Will be trying the C4S tomorrow. No point today. My drive is a 100 yards long and only my wife's Jeep has the clearance to get out.
I had my C4S out today for a few hours in about 5 or 6 inches of snow...some areas untouched by plows. I had it out, simply to drive it in the snow. I love it....so much fun. With Blizzaks, it's unstoppable. I love the looks people give me when they see me have no issues from a start on a hill....priceless. And of course, no fun day in the snow is complete without hitting an empty parking lot, turning off the psm...cutting wheel and pushing on the gas....this car does donuts faster than I ever remember...total blast. J
Yeah, down in the deep south we can only dream of snow. I know the thrill of snow from a previous life up north. The best I can hope for is occasional rain, and it doesn't even compare with the snow.

Good info. My last car was an Audi TT as well. I ordered Blizzaks for my 99' C2 but unfortunately, they are still backordered from Tirerack...due in Dec. 24th. I can't wait to drive this winter. We are currently getting 1-2 " of snow an hour in tonight's storm.
