Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hi guys, i've been in europe for the last 3 years and have a daily driver here that i would like to take back to NA, but i have no idea on where to start with shipping a car, It's just a Seat, and not a p-car or anything very pricey, but it just seems to be the perfect daily driver, and if i can get the car to NA for around $3000 then i would. Any links to a shipping company or advice would be much appreciated. Also would i have any issues with bumper regulations or safety restrictions in NA? and will registering it be possible? The car is a 2006 model if that helps Thanks Shalil oh, sorry for the cross post, just put the post where i think it may be applicable.

POST 2Original post

Seat is not a brand that is imported into the US. Due to this, having the car be accepted as a street vehicle maybe impossible due to the strict emissions and crash standards. If it is imported I believe it may only be used as an "on-track" or race car purpose. Sorry. Best of luck. C.

POST 3Original post

canada's importation laws are a bit different than the US; a local guy imported his R32 skyline from japan by bringing it in through vancouver i think. he just drove it across the border and i see him every few days driving on the wrong side of the car

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hmm, but with the skylines i hear it's possible since they are more then 11 years old or something to that effect....i think there are issues with newer cars...just not sure what?!? Is it a problem that Seat is not a brand in Canada too?

POST 5Original post

Leave it behind a SEAT would never be worth it. Here is a link for you: http://www.importexporthelp.com/importing-cars.htm

POST 6Original post

I would sell it, pocket the euros, and if you do decide to import and go through the headaches, get a deal on a nice low priced us dollar denominated car. If you need to import, there are a ton of places to find info, I thought this seemed pretty comprehensive. http://www.importcartocanada.info/gu...a-from-the-us/ There are also many Canadian owners on this board, and I imagine some of them have imported.

POST 7Original post

I'm in the same situation with a gulf spec 996 here in Kuwait. Talked with somebody who has a guy who imported a couple Porsches for him... Cost $20,000 for Euro spec ones and he wouldn't even touch Gulf Spec ones. I'll be selling mine and getting a new one when I go home to the states. Even if the numbers I was quoted is double what it turned out to be and I had a Euro not Gulf, it might be a bit iffy.

POST 8Original post

Sell it there, get paid in euros, buy a better one in the states. Europeans are buy all kinds of cars in the US and having them shipped to them because they are so cheap here (dollar value). My neighbor just sold a Solstice to someone in Slovenia on eBay. It is carzy.

POST 9Original post

sharp, a SEAT is not on the RIV's allowable imports list and thus will not be allowed to be imported for street use till it is 15 years old (R32 skylines and soon R33's along with rx-7's and last gen supras are all 15 years old and thats why they're flooding in...i know eh...where has the time gone). its unfortunate that you will have to leave it behind. Transport canada ranks as one of my top 3 most boneheaded government departments...hell it might be the worst.
