All, Last weekend I noticed a new noise in my 2004 C2. Whenever I come to a stop, I hear a sound like rushing fluid coming from somewhere deep within the dash. Kind of a gurgling noise. Imagine two water tanks connected by a hose, and when I brake the water goes from one tank to the other (sorry, I can't think of another way to describe this noise). The car runs fine, no leaks that I can see, engine temp is fine. Has anyone experienced this before? Thanks

Pluged AC drainage line? Water is retained in the dash can't drain out, sloshes around. Or water around the battery compartment, from blocked drains
Your 996 is really a 993.

No. I've not experienced it before. Has it been wet/rainy where you are and has the car been outside? Or have you washed the car recently? My guess is the same as C4CRNA: One or both drain under the front trunk lid (under the panels on either side of the battery box) are plugged (often it is leaf litter that collects and blocks these) and at least one of the basins is accumulating water. What you are hearing is the water in the basin sloshing about. Best to identify if this is the cause pronto. If the water backs up too much it can overflow into the cabin and cause more than gurgling sounds. Be sure the rear body water drains are clear too. Sincerely, Macster.
Thanks guys, sounds like an easy thing to check.
On a front engine car, that would be the sound of a water pump or a leak in the heater core or air bubbles in the rad... but on a P car.... sounds like a drainage issue like mentioned above.

If the drains are clear there is another possible cause your C4 fuel tank is a saddle tank. Do you hear it more when the tank is less then 1/2 full? BTW don't disconnect the battery if tank is less then 1/2 full or you could have problems with the fuel gauge. The sender is in on one side of the tank. It measures down from full and infers how much is left on the other side.

Heater core is in front under dash also, could be the culprit.
Any update?
Took it in for a few small jobs, including this. Service rep drove the car around for a while, couldn't hear anything. I'm hopeful that means it was just a clogged drain somewhere that's worked itself out. Pick up the car, within 20 minutes I hear the sound again. Seems to correlate with the car heating up. So...heater core seems like the obvious candidate. I'll take a look this weekend, when I am able to get the car in my in-laws' garage. Living in the city makes this kind of work tough... Thanks for checking in.
