Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

One of the things I find amazing about driving a Porsche is what some people do when they drive next to you or behind you. (I'm not talking about all the chicks that cruise you and the car, either). It seems I have been plaqued by these little Honda type 'cars' with short springs on the front, ridiculous 2 foot tall wings glued on their trunk lids, clip on fat fenders and 'tuned' exhaust pipes. They ride your tail, pull close, act strangely, like they are supposed to be a mennace to P/cars. I know if I laughed they would probably do a number on my car. Its just like a hawk or a raven flying minding their own bird business and all of a sudden a bunch of these little sparrow type birds appear all over them...man, thats what I feel like sometimes. Jim

POST 2Original post

You have to expect that you are driving a vehicle not many see on a day to day basis and certainly not many can afford to purchase. I have never driven my car without getting a Honda Civic or Ford Probe or Vette or some other vehicle pull up beside me and look at me as if they want to race. Some of them I respect given the nature of the vehicle they are driving, while others ........well I just give them a subtle nod and they usually just wave back and smile. If you look at my signature at the bottom of my thread.................ITS ALL PART OF THE PORSCHE EXPERIENCE!! You gotta ' love it though !!!! Cheers and safe driving.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You're right...I guess it is all part of the Porsche experience... Jim

POST 4Original post

you know....i actually DO laugh at them sometimes....but other times, i remember that - while YOU may not like their car, THEY do - and, i guess...deep down, somewhere....they're car guys, too. and car guys aren't bad guys....give a 'ricer' a nod every so often and you might just make their day. just a thought.

POST 5Original post

What kills me is that they put those huge wings on the rear of a front wheel drive car.....................

POST 6Original post

-Bwahahahaa...It's down force man. "stickers make you go faster". Chad

POST 8Original post

No one ever looks at my car...It sucks i guess?

POST 9Original post

You'll be glad to know it's an international trait. We get the same idiots here in the UK and always in the same type cars. We call them Chavs here but I don't know how the name derived. I am shure that most of the time they just want to see if they can push you to take off like a Porsche can. They know they have absolute zilch chance of any contest but they love it when you lay on a show for them. It's their dream car too.

POST 10Original post

Hi Gents Have a look at www.laughatrice.com..........it's a hoot! Happy Christmas

POST 11Original post

It's cause it's grey...of course! You just blend in!

POST 12Original post

It happens in any car that perceived as fast. These kids have chips on thier shoulders and are eager to prove how much "horsepower they added" when they stuck on thier cold air kits and thier fart cans.

POST 13Original post

OK...here's what you do (works best with PSE). Next time you are at a light and a chap with a mean looking Dodge Neon comes along look across and start blipping the throttle in that "Wanna race?" kind of way...if they respond then wait until the lights are about to turn green and start blippnig more.... When the light goes green ....GO!!!! ....and make a right turn

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Great site. Those were some of the stangest cars I have ever seen. Jim

POST 15Original post

When I drove from LI to Watkins Glen, every littlle-*** town I drove thru had a resident ricer that would pester me, what a PIA.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Its kind of the same up here in Portland. When this certain ricer sees me he's on my tail blipping his motor. I'm going to take the advice Brian gave...tip him a nod with a thumbs up...see if this pest will leave me alone otherwise I'm going to have to reroute my self thru the area. Jim

POST 17Original post

Yeah but for every one of those, there is a young kid all excited (like me as a kid) or a father with his kids that revs his engine looking for you to do the same or they motions to make the "fin go up", etc... which I will most normally oblige. I drove down to Charleston, SC over Thanksgiving along route 81, through Pa, WV, Va and NC and then 73? to SC and the only time I every had a "problem" was in Charleston, SC. Being as there is a Porsche, Maybach and MB, etc dealer in town, you would think it was not a big issue. Heck, isn't Charleston the port that all P-cars come through? I know Porsche used to have an office at the airport.

POST 18Original post

Oh, I dunno so much. Some of these chavs are pretty cool looking rides.....

POST 19Original post

we offen do the same...... we go after turbos......GT2sssss......RSsssss.... to see how they look from the rear....from the side...... i do not blame them at all.... concerning...these f#()8")"(!*ing wing....again they are wrong place on a front wheel car.......i agree...... but.... can you imagine these wing corectly placed....on a front wheel car???!!!!!! i.e. on the front bonnet......and i bet you have never seen that......

POST 20Original post

Berny, Not the sort of thing you expect to see in Blundellsands now...is it? Maybe Allerton?

POST 21Original post

They are probably checking out the car or trying to get you to push it. Good ole' ricers, I usually dust them before they can come up close..

POST 23Original post

In the town where I live, the little rice rocket guys don't harrass me; quite the opposite. If someone comes over to me in a gas station to compliment my 996, it is invariably a guy who just got out of a slammed honda. And when I drive my stealth sleeper car, a 2000 M5, the only people who have ever deigned to acknowledge it as a monster are the rice rocket guys - they will pull up next to me and give me the thumbs up. I find that you can divide these guys into two groups - the poseurs with the wings and lowering kits, and the real car guys who have done some incredible things under the hoods and in the suspension. This latter group will be the guys who will be buying Porsches and BMWs in ten years, and if they have questions about my car, I am happy to talk to them. The only person who has challenged me to a street race recently was a yuppie dude in a Viggen. As if. Steve 99 996 00 M5 76 930 64 356C
