Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I took some pictures (Nikon D100) of my 996 C2 Cab last weekend in town and thought I'd share them. I know that my car would look better lowered but the roads are so poor here that I'm probably not going to do it. Anyways, here is the Chicago lakefront adorned with my car.

POST 3Original post

Nice pics, nice car and yes, Chicago is a nice city. Visited there in September. Magnificent Mile

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yup, it's Belmont harbor. My wife suggested we pull over there while on Lake Shore Drive to take some pix. We continued on the Drive and then Sheridan road up to Highwood. On the return we stopped an Convito, had some appetizers and bought some Brunello. Great afternoon/early evening cruise on what maybe one of the last nice weekends in Chicago.

Henry - Nice pics! Thanks for sharing. Nice looking P-car!

The roads aren't THAT bad! Lower that beast now... at least to ROW 030...

POST 11Original post

Coo, pics.. Lower it...get a set of PSS9's and set it to the softest setting if you need to.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have thought about changing out the suspension for a ROW M030. Price of the components (around $1,000 from Suncoast) isn't too bad but the $tealer wants about 6-8 hours of labor to install (at $128/hour with PCA discount) and $380 to do a 4 wheel alignment. The $1100-$1400 seems unreasonable. Does anyone know some reliable place in Chicago to get it installed that is more reasonable? I don't want to do this by myself. If there is someone in the Chicago area that has done this before and would be willing to help I'd be interested.

POST 13Original post

Henry, I changed out my springs by myself after I was getting similarly outrageous quotes. There are a few reputable independents in town, but they all want to charge the "book time" of 6-8 hours... my brother and I changed out the whole car in ~4 hours... this was also my first time tackling any DIY suspension work. There are some very good DIY instructions if you search this board. If you are mechanically inclined at a low-intermediate level, and have a friend who can help you, this mod is not that bad as a DIY... you will need to borrow a spring compressor to keep things safe... Alignment can be had at Becker Service Center in Naperville for less than $250... he is great to work with and a Porsche enthusiast. Hope this helps... Jeff
