Posted last week about the engine still running with the keys out of the lock.Have just got a new switch but haven't fitted it yet. However tonite it did it again so just out of curiosity I switched off the headlights and the engine stopped-tried it again and the same result. Are the ignition and headlights related either mechanically or electrically in some way. Seems odd to me. Could it be something other than the ignition switch? Thanks jason

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Look for lights that don't operate at "quite" full brighness with the ignition off but the engine running. Those "dim" lights are not fully gounded and are "back" feeding the ignition.
Munro... I had a girlfriend with a faulty ignition switch too.
Once the switch goes bad the car does all kinds of goofy thing. Replace that crappy Audi/VW switch and be done with it. Porsche started using in with the 1997 Boxster and there have been 4 versions over the years. Thank god Porsche finally gave up on it in 2003 and came out with a totally new design. Hope you purchased 4B0 905 849. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...t=0&#entry1941
Jim...not going there! Tool Pants: The switch is 4AO 905 849 "B" Have I stuffed up? Cheers, Jason
Yes, and I suspected so since that is why I gave the part number. Parts people do not know this stuff. The switch you bought requires a different housing/steering wheel lock. The switch you want is no longer in the Porsche parts system. Therefore you need to buy it as an Audi/VW part. My Porsche dealer was also VW, but now just Porsche and Audi. One of the local Boxster guys with a 2000 had a bad switch 2 weeks so I met him at the parts department to make sure he did not get the wrong switch. We stood on the Audi side of the parts counter which is about 2 feet away from the Porsche side, and pretended the switch was for an Audi. The real funny thing is that the Audi side always sold the exact switch switch for more money than the Porsche side. So we always bought it as a Porsche part. No more as it no longer exist as a current Porsche part number. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=1313
