Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

In a quandry...993s are nice, my indy mechanic thinks that's the way to go...but if i got a nick or ding I'd be bummed...I want to drive it and enjoy it...no garage queens going forward. The 997s are sweet...even the 2002s and later with the additional hp are touted. I've found a good looking '99, 6 sp, factory aero with TechArt wing, heated seats, 18" motorsport wheels with good rubber. Clutch and RMS was done 2k miles back. Guys seems bona fide...PCA member etc. I'm going to order up a PPI...and if everything is as it touted I'm going to make the leap. I know we are somewhere between $20 and $25k...is 77k something to be concerned with in light of the RMS and clutch already done. What's the right purchase number plus or minus a $1000, bucks? What should I expect to pay for a pre purchase inspection in the Washington DC area? Thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

New to the area so I don't know what a PPI goes for here, but 77k shouldn't be a problem in itself. A new clutch is worth having, and assuming the RMS has been done right it should be a good motor. I would guess that if it had the '99 porosity problem it would have gone bang long before 77k.

POST 3Original post

depending on the options and condition on the car........ i say about $25-$30K

POST 4Original post

I was going to say a bit under $25k for a private seller, but those pieces and factory aero kit are worth something. Depends how much you like the look of the car with the wing, etc. Otherwise you could find lots of less optioned cars in the same price range with lower miles.... Good luck!

POST 5Original post

You can play hardball by going to a dealer and get a quote on what they would offer on a trade. It is probably going to be even less than $20K. If the seller had explored that option he knows his back is against the wall. What is the reason the car is up for sale? While you don't want to lowball the poor guy too much, it is a buyer's market and you might as well get the best price you can. If someone offered me $25K on my '99 C2 I would jump at it.

POST 6Original post

I paid $175 for a PPI in Conn. 2 years ago. Lots of owners on this site have more than 77k miles and they're still enjoying their Porsches. Heated seats are a plus, 18" wheels included so you won't need to spend $ to upgrade 17", plus an aero kit...sounds like a decent ride with new clutch and RMS done recently.Mid 20's sounds decent to me.GL

POST 7Original post

Greg- I worked and lived in PGH in the early 70's...how's the Burgh?

POST 8Original post

Prices have really dropped.. $25K would be a fair price. If it is in exceptional condition, I'd pay up to $27K. Do you have pics that you can post?

POST 10Original post

A search would give you a lot of info. I would think $20-25, depending on condition here in NC/SC. Maybe add 10-20% for wing and location in DC? My guess.

POST 12Original post

We aren't comparing apples to apples , different market and I don't have an aero kit, I paid $24.5k for my '99 with 47,000. Dealer had it listed for $27.5k.
