Just curious, if you build you car through Porsche, do dealers offer any discount? I would think not, as there's no inventory cost, but yet again, most car companies make a ton of profit on options and building your car is typically done for expansive option lists (does the full carbon really cost $10k?). I've always wanted to build my car, my way, but with the discounts on dealer inventory, it seems crazy.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

You can certainly expect to deal for a car sitting on a dealer's lot. You can get a discount on a built car, but it's probably about half or less of what you could expect if the dealer already had the car.
In my past experience, whenever I ordered a car from the factory, the dealer would take a very small profit for receiving and prepping the car. Usually only $500 over invoice. One was a Chevy and the other was a Benz. I did have to wait several months but I thought it was worth it. Some dealers are cool with this because they are making a quick profit with very little work, get another sale which determines future allocations and will get another service bay customer. Bobby
Bobby - Since ordered to spec cars come out of the dealer's allocation, I think typically there would be less of a discount than with a car sitting on the dealer's lot for a while, where a point comes when they are willing to reach to move it out. A lot of dealers can't get all the cars they want, so profit on each one allocated counts. Mike, keep in mind that the dealers make very little on the optional equipment (with Porsche).
this really depends on your relationship with the dealer but as a general rule, ordering a car really means you intend to buy from them, and they will discount a bit less than if you take a car off their lot that is burning a hole in their pocket sitting there. expect a ordered car to get 30-50% less discounted.
I've gotten significant discounts on both a 996 and a 997S that were built to my order. I think a lot depends on the dealer's allocation of the model you're interested in and whether he's approaching the deadline for when he has to actually order the car. I think that a dealer may be more willing to discount in order to know that a car is in essence sold at the time he places his order with PCNA. Obviously, now, you're not going to be able to order a 996 to your build specs since they've stopped making them. But you can get significant discounts on the 996, even off of dealer invoice, because many dealers have new, unsold cars that have decreased in value because of the advent of 997.
thanks guys. I know you can't get a spec'd 996, but it was a more general question now a spec'd 996tt......
We ordered our 996 with almost $24K in options at the start of the 2002 MY and got $4K off from the dealer.
I ordered my 04 C4S in April 03, took delivery in September, and negotiated a healthy discount. Having the first 04 C4S at a discount in my opinion is really getting your moneys' worth! The dealer doesn't 'offer a discount', you have to go get it.
