Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have followed this forum for a few weeks before I recently purchased an '00 996. It will be my daily driver in all weather including snow. The amount of info and knowledge of these owners is amazing! I obviously read with quite some detail some of the horror stories of a few owners with some major problems with their 996s. My question as a curent owner of a BMW 740 and previously a 750il is can these 996s be any more complex than the BMWs? Anyone that knows these BMWs knows of plenty of horror stories that seem to affect a much larger percentage than what I see here. Are the issues I see on some posts an anomaly or a much bigger design problem with these engines? I guess it's the old addage that the odds are very low to be struck by lightning, but it really sucks if it happens to you. My othe P-cars were virtually bullet proof. I'm hoping for the same experience , knock wood , along with an extended warranty. My last question is I have an option code of Q88 and can't find that one on any of the decoders. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Fred

My 996's have been great. I think the horror stories are limited to a select few.

Don't forget the depreciation, BMW's big ones in particularly loose massive amonts of money, why, I think that answers your question. I've taken the plunge possibly too early to tell but the history was 100% as was the owner treat it better than his wife, the 996 is lovely! AD
