Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

is there a way to tell between a 3.4L engine and a 3.6L engine in the 996? I have looked under my car and I have the 3.6L mufflers (its got the acordian thing), Thanks

POST 3Original post

the 3.4L has vario cam embossed on the side of the engine... maybe the 3.6L has variocam plus. not really sure though.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

my car is a 99 but since the mufflers were changed i was wondering maybe they did an entire engine swap.....is there anyway to tell from just looking at it? thanks all

POST 5Original post

the 3.6 engines had a "soft" redline.... that is you can drive them to redline and the needle would simply stay at redline like a video game... there is no "banging" against the redline limiter...

POST 6Original post

As stated on another thread, the 99 does not have e-gas therfore making it very difficult to convert to a 3.6 liter. I will have to bet that you have a 3.4 liter. The 3.6 liter engine came in model year 02 to present.

POST 7Original post

If you have a 99 C2, check to see if there is a cable that controls the throttlebody. Many 3.4 have put on 3.6 mufflers.

POST 8Original post

You would know...why would someone HIDE that info.

POST 9Original post

You have a 3.4L more than likely but check for that throttle cable

POST 10Original post

+1 look for variocam logo on the left rear or right front on the side of the engine. This is a sure way!

POST 11Original post

99 C4's have e-gas.....They were a mid year addition and had all the 2000 model year updates.
