Those crafty 993 guys have gone and created their own version of PSE. It appears that their mod bypasses the muffler entirely and sends a portion of the raw exhaust sound straight out the the back. Has anyone tried this style mod on our cars? https://rennlist.com/forums/993-forum/213120-project-muffler-modification-complete.html https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...hlight=muffler

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Thats how the MkII mod works, same exact principle.
Tippy - That is how the MK I mod works, some of the exhaust by passes the muffler completely. The MK II mod allows the exhaust to by pass the 3rd (last) chamber in the muffler .
Yea, Yea, Yea, thats what I meant, j/k,
Why not just do a muffler delete and lose the weight of the mufflers? There is probably little to no muffling done with that mod, I would just drop the muffs and call it done.
Way too loud w/o mufflers!
If you're dumping a portion of the gases directly around the muffler I'm wondering how different it would sound if you just cut the hole in the inlet and didn't bother welding the pipe to the exhaust...either way it's dumping directly to atmosphere...
For one, you could kick a lot of dust, dirt and pebbled from below into the engine compartment. However, I know another fellow member (forget the name!) DID do just that for a week or so till he got his mufflers to complete the mod. Also, if you cut the hole in any other direction other than "down" then you're basically spewing HOT exhaust gases all around in the engine bay. That's going to melt the plastics, wiring harnesses and could potentially kill the car. Finally, also you would create turbulence immediately outside the cut hole, which could interfere with the smooth flow of gas RIGHT behind the same hole as high pressure gases flow towards the mufflers. There is less turbulence for the exhaust if you mix all the high pressure flow within tubing before eventually spewing them out to the atmosphere. I'd just say, if you're doing it spend the $100- $150 to do the mod at a muffler shop (or fab the pipes and welding if you're skilled). We're already getting a great deal with this mod vs spending $1800 for the same mod as done at the Porsche factory.
Has anyone done a MKIII (i.e. 997S PSE) mod on either the 3.4, 3.6 stock or PSE cans? Would two pipes, i.e.MKI PSE and MKII PSE, make the sound even "better"?
Here's a pic
