Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am just curious when these high definition dvd's are coming to the market here. I havn't read any homethetre mags. in months, and they were out in japan almost a year ago.

POST 2Original post

From what I have heard in the audio community, it is 1-2 years out still. Sorry!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That sucks, as they were saying the same a year ago. Thanks anyhow.

POST 4Original post

What would hold them up for such a long time in the U.S.? All Dolby formats are universal aren't they? Can you just order from Japan?

POST 5Original post

The new HD DVD's will require a completely new type of laser mechanism, i.e.- new HD/DVD player. Right now there are 2 HD formats that are being decided on. Which will win out is any one's guess.

POST 6Original post

Oh great....after I just bought a new Denon CD/DVD player!

POST 7Original post

Like Fro said, there are two competing formats, and they don't want a repeat of the Beta vs VHS competition several decades ago. You can get a multiplier, though, and you can get a good approximation of the HD picture from a DVD. Most high end systems will have this built in at the monitor/projector end. There is also a Sony product line of DVD's called Superbit, where they reportedly pack more data into the DVD, resulting in better quality. I find that it is better than standard DVD.
