Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Porsche OEM or B&M SSK. Lots of threads on how to install. OEM is a little bit easier.
While we're on this topic...has anyone noticed that the B&M's can be had all day long and brand new for $100 on E-bay. I love to support vendors as much as the next guy and don't mind paying a few bucks more to support a vendor BUT at half the price it's hard not to bite on the B&M's from e-bay.
+1 on the B&M
B&M is good. It is a relatively easy DIY install. Takes 2 to 2.5 hours, and at least 1/2 of that time is spent removing/re-installing the rear center console. Actually the hardest part of the whole process is initially getting the shoft **** off the OEM shifter. If you want an easy and SAFE way to remove it, do a search on "screwdriver" to find one of my posts on how to remove the **** without knocking your teeth out (seriously). DO IT, you won't regret it.
B&M with Agency Power shift linkage...
I have the B&M and love it. I don't have the AP linkage though so if it improves it anymore that would be a bonus!
What does the AP linkage really do? Is it worth it?
Some say it helps by removing some of the "slop" of the factory linkage which is plastic. Personally, I don't feel any slop with my SSK and factory linkage and don't see the value in it based on the cost of the part.
I have a B & M and love it. Best mod for the buck IMHO.
I'm with you on that one Dell. My B&M SSK feels perfect.
If you look at the $100 B&M on eBay you may notice that some people are selling a lower kit, not the shifter itself. Others are selling knock off B&M's which a few will tell you if you ask.
Porsche OEM SSK, no slop...so far.
Greg, Here's my experience with the B&M in my 03 996 Carrera 2: -The installation is pretty easy. Just follow the instructions carefully and do NOT be in a hurry. -The shifter will feel really weird at first, especially if you've had the car a while and are really used to the stock shifter. -When the engine is cold, the shifter will feel pretty stiff. It was just as stiff with the OEM shifter, but the B&M amplifies this because of the short throw. Give the car a few miles to warm up. -The feel will be much more precice. It'll be notchy as well. This is all part of the design. -Charles
I have a schnell. It's almost exactly like the B&M I had in my boxster but not quite as notchy.
B&M no contest
I recently had the B&M installed. As many have said before, the B&M should have been a standard feature.
