Replaced it as part of the clutch job. 1999 C2 cab with 102,000 miles. Bearing appears to be fine; no play in the shaft and seals seems to be intact. Bearing made in Japan Clutch disc was worn, but not completely. The pressure plate failed causing the clutch to slip. Should be back on the road early next week.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

That makes me feel real good. I have the double race bearing in my 99 C2 cab. Don't intend to update it. Never did. Sights like that cement it for me. Role on next week for you. Have fun.
Pull the seal(s) and look for grease.
Ya I have to same car but coupe , so it's worth a little more, 70 k original berring so good to hear.
How did the pressure plate fail?
Hmmm... I have that identical paperweight.
^^^^ Nope! Look a little closer.
Double row

My indy said the springs had weakened, letting the disc slip. It went from absolutely no slip at all to slipping over 3k instantly. Also when it started, the pedal seemed to stick at the bottom for a second, then felt very weak.
The stat's given by Jake (and Porsche) show that the double row failure rate is pretty low compared to the single row - hence why they were left out of the lawsuit (although there are other factors that precluded these being included). Mine is a double row and is also a souvenir and it was fine when removed. This is not to say that at some future point it might have failed but at 160K (km's) it was in good condition. FYI: the seals are in perfect condition and there was still grease inside. Perhaps a Northern climate and a Tiptronic helped? Who knows.

Gotta be better than a $20k paperweight.
Absolutely!!
Don't judge a book by its cover.. Cut the bearing apart and measure it up, looking for spalling and skipping *****. You can't say judge the bearing without doing this.. The oil inside the bearing will make it feel much better than it generally is. Nope, I have never posted percentages. Why? Because the figures to create the equation can't be gathered with any level of accuracy. All I know is last week was the highest on record for IMSB failure calls that we;ve had since 2008.
No matter what anyone's opinion of the IMSB issue is, it looks like we do all agree that they make wonderful paperweights.
