Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm wondering what, if anything, has happened to 996 sales now that the 997's have been shown? I know from talking to a local Chevy dealer that they can't give existing Corvettes away and are selling them for Invoice which previously was unheard of for them because the next generation Corvette was shown so early. In that there is only another month or so for 996 orders, I'm just wondering if there has been any discernable impact to sales of existing 996's or if dealerships are suddenly discounting 996's sitting on their lot because they fear getting stuck with them as people wait for the 997. Thoughts? Conjecture? Statistics?

POST 2Original post

Sales for the 996 will go down, only when the 997 is sitting in the show room.

POST 3Original post

No question, that 996's will be hit hard. Anytime a new model comes out the old takes a hit, but it will realy come down to how soon the buyer needs to have his or her Porsche and with the disounting that will happen on the 996's, the dealers will sell everyone, especially since the exterior designs of the 996 and 997 are marginal. Believe me Porsche AG will make sure they limit the productio of the 997's for the U.S. until the 996's are gone!

POST 4Original post

They've already started moving out the 996's with the additonal $10K off 40th Anniversary 911's that were being heavily discounted before the $10K.

POST 5Original post

FWIW - dealer indication yesterday was that Turbo Coupe, Cab and C4S sales continue to show strength...remainder of 996 portfolio is weak. This dealer is showing a rather strong order book for the 997, with a distinct bias to the "S". First deliveries expected mid September.
