Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

about 2 weeks ago because something has been drawing the battery down every couple of days (battery & alternator checked out fine) and sometimes the starter would make that weird noise after it cranked (like it was dragging) since I had it rebuilt, battery has been ok & it has been starting fine, this morning I started it BUT it had that dragging noise again after it started. Does anybody know what that could be.

Not much to go on. Dragging noise suggests a problem with the starter's overrun clutch or the starter pinion gear disengaging from the flywheel ring gear. The slow disengaging may leave the starter engaged too long after engine start and the engine spins the starter clutch at too high a speed which exacrebates the symptom. Sincerely, Macster.

POST 3Original post

Maybe is is not the starter. Could be the ign switch not returning/failing. Are you sure it is the starter? How long does it make the noise? Could it be the SAI pump?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dang, I was hoping it wouldn't be this many possibilities. No, I'm not for sure its the starter, just changed out the ignition switch. Dragging only lasts for a second or two after it cranks. I don't think I've ever had anything on this car that was simple to pinpoint, but I'm not a Porsche mechanic either! I guess its just a process of elimination, any suggestions on what to try next. jmo
