Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Western General has authorized a replacement motor for my "99" 996 55K. When I purchased my 996 2.5 years ago (43Kmiles) I was offered an aftermarket warranty for 3 yrs or 36K miles. I'm never one to purchase aftermarket warranties, but thanks to the Rennlist Forum and the many stories of RMS problems I decided to pay the $3,600 for the warranty. Just as I was starting to think it was a waste of money my engine started to make a rapping sound. Tech found excessive play, and radial play in the crank. .76 lateral runout. Western General sent an inspector out to the facility in Mass. to verify the problem. The total bill for the engine replacement is $12,683.43 Western General will cover $12,096.96, they do not cover shipping, uncrating, a/c recharge.

Rick - that's GREAT news! Congrats! Including the cost of the warranty, you got a new engine for $4,186.47. Saved $8,496.96: Awesome. Knowing the warranty was a good decision: Priceless!
